You will be prompted to download the file, which is a Microsoft Word document. These URLs will be in place on MeL.org starting October 1st. There are two URLs that are still in-process...AtoZDatabases and MyHeritage. When these URLs are ready we will update the file and send notice out via the listservs. The geo-IP URLs check to see if a user is coming from a registered institution (based on IP address), then they check to see if the user is in Michigan to allow access to the resource. FrankenSlam program in Saline

Good morning, I wanted to reach out and let you know about a program we are holding on Saturday, October 13 at 2 pm at Liberty School at 7265 N Ann Arbor Street in Saline MI. The program is FrankenSlam, a hybrid lecture and slam poetry performance exploring the continued influence of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. The classic novel is celebrating its 200th birthday this year, and this program is serving as a tribute to the novel, to Shelley, and the power of poetry. Feel free to share with your patrons, neighboring schools, book groups, and drama groups. Come join us! In 1816 poet Lord Byron challenged his friends to craft a ghost story, setting the stage for teenage Mary Shelley to write Frankenstein , a tale about a scientist consumed with reanimating the dead. Byron’s challenge is reminiscent of poetry slams today , and to honor the bicentennial anniversary of Frankenstein poet Adam Henze has created “FrankenSlam: Where the Poetry is Alive! It’s Alive.” This poetic celebration begins with a hybrid lecture and performance exploring Shelley’s influence on artists ranging from bards to hip hop. After the performance participants are invited to create their own “horrorcore poem” in an interactive writing workshop. Echoing Byron’s ghost story challenge, the session concludes with a FrankenSlam, where all are invited to share their poetic creations at the mic. This will be held at Liberty School auditorium, located at 7265 N. Ann Arbor St. Saline MI. Fall Festival Craft Leftovers

Good afternoon everyone, I just wrapped up my last program at my former library in Indiana and will officially be a Michigander again. I had a "Fall Festival" to celebrate the official first day of fall. We had pumpkin painting, face painting, a puppet show, corn craft, paint a fall tree craft, cotton candy, apple cider, and pumpkin donunt holes. Our patrons had tons of fun. I have tons of bubble wrap and "corn" from the "corn" craft if anyone would like it. I left my Indiana library with plenty. Just let me know. Also, I would like to thank all of you that have reached out to me about job opportunities with Michigan libraries and meeting up for lunch. I truly appreciate it. Michigan libraries rock! Great hands-on program: photographer Jeff Smith

Hi, everyone -- Benzonia Public Library and the U-M School of Information had a great time on Saturday co-presenting photographer Jeff Smith (also of the U-M School of Information) for a pair of workshops (see attached flyer), and we wanted to recommend him as a potential teacher for your library. Jeff started with a two-hour in-library session on taking better smartphone photos, including hidden help built into camera apps, lighting, and editing tools. I'm not exaggerating to say that his tips elicited actual gasps. In the afternoon, he met a group for a photo walk through downtown Beulah. Imagine finding photographic gold in an alleyway, looking down from a hilltip, or by crouching in beachgrass to get the best lake view! Then, he showed how he chooses and edits to bring out the best in the photos. Jeff is a natural teacher of both beginners and experts. He's genuinely interested in others' work, smoothly balances one-on-one advice with large-group guidance, and takes deep pleasure in helping others learn. He also enjoys exploring new communities.
