Good time for full bedbug inspections
by Stanczak, Cindy 10 Apr '20

10 Apr '20

Weird topic, I know, but it's true. If you haven't had a bedbug inspection by canine recently (or ever), now is the time to do it. Even if you were to have hits, treatment (and any contract discussions or purchase of heat treatment equipment, if needed) could take place more leisurely and intentionally than if you needed to arrange it immediately and around your open hours. We've been incredibly pleased with the work we've seen from our company on this, and they are available to travel throughout the state and into northern Indiana with their dogs. If you're interested in their contact information, please email me directly. They are contracted through Orkin and Griffin pest control companies, but if you have a contract with someone else, or no pest contract at all, they can also do work independently. My bedbug procedures and quarantine and treatment equipment lists are available to anyone who might want them. We funded our equipment purchase through a grant from our library co-op. There's also an amazing sense of relief and empowerment that comes from knowing you've been inspected and knowing how to address it for the safety of your staff and patrons. Best wishes to you all. Cynthia Stanczak, MLS Library Director Albion District Library 501 S. Superior St. Albion, MI 49224 (517) 629-3993 Albion District Library: Transforming Minds, Changing Lives. Proudly serving our community since 1919. Online at www.albionlibrary.org, or find us on Facebook! *My working day may not be your working day. by Pam Seabolt 10 Apr '20

10 Apr '20

We invite you to join MCLS staff for the next dialogue and discussion in our weekly series of conversations around the environment we find ourselves working in right now and what opportunities might exist as we move forward. This week we’ll be joined by State Librarians Jake Speer and Randy Riley as we discuss and co-create the post-pandemic library world, from re-opening to potential reinvention. Part support group, part visioning, let’s share our thoughts and ideas as we imagine our preferred future. Join us today, Friday, April 10 at 11:00 EDT (10:00 am CDT) on Zoom https://zoom.us/j/172695113. Before the discussion, you might check out this blog post<https://blogs.ifla.org/lpa/2020/04/06/now-and-next-what-a-post-covid-world-…> from IFLA (International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions), which is relevant to our topic of conversation. https://blogs.ifla.org/lpa/2020/04/06/now-and-next-what-a-post-covid-world-… You can view the recordings and chat logs from the previous dialogues by visiting https://www.mcls.org/training-events/presentation-slides/. Governor Whitmer Extends Stay-At-Home Order Through April 30
by Riley, Randy (MDE) 09 Apr '20

FYI. Governor Whitmer has extended the Stay-At-Home order through April 30. More information will be shared as we receive it. Stay safe and healthy. r. Ms. Whitmer issued her original stay-at-home order on March 23 to take effect March 24, and originally would have ended April 13<https://gcc01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Flegislatio…>. "Michigan has the third highest number of COVID-19 cases in the country, and we're still on the upswing. We must continue to do everything we can to slow the spread and protect our families," Ms. Whitmer said in a statement. "Data shows that most Michiganders are doing their part by staying home and staying safe. That's good, but we must keep it up. When we do, we can save lives and shorten the amount of time we're working through this crisis, which will be good for our families and good for our economy in the long-run. We can also protect critical infrastructure workers like doctors, nurses, grocery store employees, and child care workers. Now more than ever, it's crucial that people stay home and stay safe." There are some changes in Executive Order 2020-42<https://content.govdelivery.com/attachments/MIEOG/2020/04/09/file_attachmen…> to the original order. Travel for vacations or for any other nonessential purpose is now prohibited. Large stores must also now limit the number of people in the store to four customers for every 1,000 square feet of customer floor space. Smaller stores must limit capacity to 25 percent of the fire code occupancy limit. Stores must also establish markings to regulate entry so that customers are at least six feet apart while waiting. And large stores must close areas dedicated to carpeting, flooring, furniture, garden centers, plant nurseries or paint. Ms. Whitmer will address the situation at a 3 p.m. briefing to be broadcast via the Department of State Police's social media accounts. "This doesn't mean everything will go back to normal on May 1," Ms. Whitmer said. "But based on the data we have right now, this is the appropriate window for an extension. It will take time to safely and responsibly re-open the economy, which is why we will continue to provide critical unemployment support and assistance to our small businesses during this challenging time. We will get through this if we all continue to do our part." Please send all correspondence to gongwer(a)gongwer.com<mailto:gongwer@gongwer.com>. This mailbox is not regularly monitored.
