Join us Friday for a dialogue about the post-pandemic library
by Pam Seabolt 14 Apr '20

14 Apr '20

We invite you to join MCLS staff for the next dialogue and discussion in our weekly series of conversations around the environment we find ourselves working in right now and what opportunities might exist as we move forward. This week we continue to discuss and co-create the post-pandemic library world. The top images of the preferred post-pandemic library future from last week’s discussion are: * Libraries deemed MOST ESSENTIAL institution in the country * Places to re-connect = libraries * Serving the underserved with new vigor * Taking the library out of the building * Library saves the day with remote patron services * Great community collaborators providing convenient services and leading in safe practices * Reinventing traditional services to meet the needs of today’s worlds * Continue to remove barriers to service and keep those changes in place * Library supports “life-essential” activities Part support group, part visioning, let’s share our thoughts and ideas as we delve deeper into these images of our preferred future. Join us this week on Friday, April 17 at 11:00 EDT (10:00 am CDT) on Zoom. Please login using this link for the Virtual Dialogue<https://zoom.us/j/172695113?pwd=dnpuUVBudFR5MHZaTHl4bTN6UjZWdz09>. You can view the recordings and chat logs from the previous dialogues by visiting https://www.mcls.org/training-events/presentation-slides/. Executive Order 2020-43
by Membiela, Clare (MDE) 14 Apr '20

14 Apr '20

Greetings! Last evening, Governor Whitmer signed Executive Order 2020-43, "Temporary Restrictions on the uses of places of public accommodations - rescission of Executive Order 2020-20." EO 2020-43 replaces and extends EO 2020-20, which closed places of public accommodation (such as libraries)and, among other things, required restaurants to provide food via takeout or delivery only. EO 2020-43 extends these measures until April 30, 2020 at 11:59pm. This move is in keeping with the extension of the "stay at home" order until April 30, 2020, at 11:59pm by Executive Order 2020-42 To sum, Executive Order 2020-43, released this morning, extends the closure of places of public accommodation (including libraries) until April 30, 2020 at 11:59 pm. The text of EO 2020-43, 2020-42, and the earlier executive orders they replace can be found online at https://www.michigan.gov/coronavirus/0,9753,7-406-98178_98455-521682--,00.h… Please don't hesitate to contact me if anyone has any questions. our current covid material
by White Pine District Library 14 Apr '20

I thought I'd send this to you, you can share anything that you want to. You can send me messages if you have suggestions, warning or ideas. * We received permission from our local health dept. to continue the use of our mini libraries so we stocked them with books for all ages, work sheets, seeds from our seed library etc. The state said that we need to check locally with Health dept. so we did. * We are still taking in returns to the drop box but they are quarantined and then cleaned as prescribed by the CDC. * The Pandemic Procedures Policy was added to our policies here at WPDL before the shutdown. Our Board will need to look at them and adjust, now that we know how far a pandemic can take us. * We are paying our staff to stay home. * Our Board meetings are being done via Zoom and they are posted on our website and Facebook. Asking for people to email us with a request to join with a deadline by which they must contact us. * We are waiting for more direction for the Opening Plan. But we anticipate a "soft" opening, back to curbside service at least at the beginning. * No overdue fees are being assessed during this time. * I do not have many people working from home as internet in our area is spotty. I have a gal doing regular positive posts on our Facebook. * The "plan"/letter is posted on our door and each team member who is reporting has one in their possession. SOS I am looking for more ideas for Summer Reading. Wondering what others are thinking of doing. I am looking for the best site, where you can place the name of the book into the system and see if it has open domain for sharing online.
