Good morning, Allegan District Library is hiring a Youth Services Librarian. Under the supervision of the Library Director, the Youth Services Librarian plans, organizes and conducts youth services, including programming and collection development for children from birth to age 17. Works closely with the Adult Programming and Marketing Coordinator for outreach and marketing for community youth. This is a full-time benefited position (health insurance, HRA for vision/dental, short- and long-term disability, and life insurance, as well as generous Paid Time Off). This position is exempt, starting salary is $40,000. Requirements for the Youth Services Librarian include, but are not limited to, a Master’s Degree in educational, library-related, or family services-related field, and two years of experience working with youth in an educational- or library-related setting. Bound Nat Geo Volumes

I have a question for all my esteemed library colleagues regarding bound National Geographic issues. Our library, like so many others, has a large collection of these gorgeous volumes collecting dust in our basement. I am wondering, for those who have passed them along, if they were able to locate any agencies, libraries, whatever interested in receiving them. Our collection spans several decades, going back to the 1920's. It's just so hard to throw them away... Question: public library reference in Michigan prisons

My colleague and I are working on a project about reference services in Michigan prisons and we are hoping to get a feel for what current partnerships exist between public libraries and prison libraries. We are curious if you or your system has had success in forming a partnership to formally provide services to a prison in Michigan or if you've been able to provide reference services via answer letters, etc? If not presently, has this been successful in the past? If you've tried and not been successful, could you briefly share what the barriers have been? Library Digital Image Program Available for Public Libraries - Available for Winter, Spring & Summer 2023

I hope you are all well on this beautiful day in Michigan. I would like to continue to make available to the Michigan Library community (and others) on managing and organizing digital pictures. I presented this program a number of times during September and October in both virtual and in-person (IRL) formats. In the past, I was only making this available for Michigan libraries - but I could open this up for any public library as long as the logistics & timing worked out. So please feel free to share this with others. And I am happy to expand to libraries elsewhere - as long as the timing works. I have been updating the slides a few times since September to reflect the ever changing environment of photo storage on the web. Program Description: Seems that everyone is a photographer these days. We use our smartphones, our tablets, and even some people even use cameras. With the ease of taking pictures, we find ourselves with a new concern. How do we manage, save and share these pictures? This program will introduce you to photo sharing services that are available from companies such as Google, Apple, facebook and flickr (among others) and how to organize them for easy retrieval. We will look at ways organize, backup and share pictures with friends and family. We will also explore how images are found by others (using tags or search terms), if you want to share more broadly. This could be the perfect session if you want to do something with all those pictures on your phone or clogging up your SD card! --end-- Realistically, I would be happy to do this virtually anywhere and could schedule anytime over the next year or so. I would also be happy to do this in-person if you are relatively close to Ann Arbor & Ypsilanti. There would not be any charge for a virtual presentation.
