Hello all! The Benton Harbor Public Library is holding our Annual Hobbitun Run on November 12 at noon. This event will benefit the Children's Department of the Benton Harbor Public Library and our partner program with the Corewell Health Center for Better Health and Wellness called Launchpad 022. A little bit about Launchpad 022: Launchpad 022 is a collaborative effort between the Benton Harbor Public Library and Spectrum Health Lakeland’s Center for Better Health and Wellness. Eighty percent of our health is influenced by social determinants such as access to quality education, economic stability, and employment. There are disparities in the health outcomes of our urban and rural populations. Those inequities begin early in life and increase over time. We will address community-identified health needs as they apply to youth, thereby changing the trajectory of their lives where the Social Determinants of Health (SDoH) have the greatest impact. The goal is to provide innovative and free educational, motivational, leadership and internship opportunities to middle school students in an equitable manner while improving social cohesion in a safe environment. Launchpad 022 will improve the health of Berrien County youth by providing unlimited, equitable access to our world and eliminate disparities that currently exist. The Baldwin Public Library hosted Matthew Ball- The Boogie-Woogie Kid- <https://www.boogiewoogiekid.com/boogiewoogiekid> for an afternoon concert of boogie-woogie piano music from The Great American Songbook. The crowd enjoyed Matthew's piano mastery and requested that he returns next year. Matthew was a pleasure to work with and highly recommended if you are looking for a musical program. Hey Laura, I'm happy to help out any time I have available. Here's what I've been using: Zoom to record meetings. The audio tends to sound better in zoom than using the recording function on my laptop or anchor, for some reason. Microphone: [ https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07Y1C6GDS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09… | https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07Y1C6GDS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09…. ] You really don't have to get this one, there are other options with the screen to cut down on breath sounds in the recordings. Editing the audio: soundtrap.com RSS.com: for hosting the podcast but you can also use anchor. RSS pushes the distribution out to multiple channels automatically. I don't know enough about Anchor but I bet it does the same thing. Soundtrap has free music in the public domain for the intro and outro; I used the same song and alot of the podcasts I've been listening to do that too. I make sure to credit the composer if there is one in the show notes. I wear headphones too. A patron had recently donated a few titles that state that they are the "Advanced Proof" editions. The titles in question are, "I'm Glad My Mom Died" by Jennette McCurdy and "Control Freak" by Cliff "CLIFFYB" Bleszinski. We're wondering if any other libraries had received donations like this and how they went about cataloging them. PDL is hosting a virtual workshop presented by Chaya Milchtein, aka the Mechanic Shop Femme, about the fundamentals of owning a car on Thursday, November 3rd from 6:30-8:00pm. Chaya is an automotive educator and empowerment speaker, and I find her focus on teaching women and the LGBT+ community about cars to be super admirable! This class is intended for teens/young adults but we certainly welcome interested parents as well.
