With a new school year upon us and parent-teacher conferences just around the corner, it is important to have resources at the ready to support our patrons as they seek to better serve this population. Parents Family Matters<https://www.michigan.gov/mde/Services/special-education/parent-resources/fa…>, a special outreach program through the Michigan Department of Education, provides parents and families with information about special education laws, rules, services, and practices. Easy-to-understand documents are provided in English, Arabic, and Spanish that detail items such as Accommodations, Educational Evaluation, and Placement. Hi everyone! Our library hosted Amberrose Hammond last night to a fully packed house, and she did not disappoint. I held our conference room door open so people could exit, and a patron jokingly asked if we provided escorts to their cars (at least I think they were joking). There were just as many gasps as there were laughs, and it made for an amazing spooky season program. I highly recommend her as a presenter. Program Recommendation: Tammie Rain Hayes

Good afternoon all, I know you've seen Tammie's name floating around on Michlib-l recently, and for good reason. Bayliss Library hosted her last night for a sound healing and she spent about two hours here with us. One whole hour was hearing the sounds of her instruments and the other was dedicated to talking about our experiences and her giving us lots of great information about the instruments, her travels, her background, etc. I was very impressed with her program, and I think that this was very beneficial for those who attended. The things that stood out most to be were how easy Tammie was to work with before the program, how kindly and respectfully she treated our patrons, and the quality of the program itself. Although there were others in the room, I have to say that this felt like a one-on-one therapeutic session; she gave personalized attention to each person and everyone was respectful of each other's space and silence. I would highly recommend Tammie to visit your library to give your community a "taste" of an experience they may have never had access to. Even now, it can be difficult for some to reach the treatment that they want due to location or price - providing this program at no cost or low cost to the public can really reach people who need it, and I can say with certainty that everyone who attends will be very thankful for it! Meeting Space Rental Inquiry

Greetings, My library board has tasked me with reaching out to other libraries to see how meeting space rentals are handled for nonprofit and civic organizations. Currently, our auditorium is available to rent for $75 for five hours and is most often used (aside from library programs) for baby showers, graduation parties and the like. If you have special pricing or guidelines for nonprofit or civic groups looking for long term meeting space and would be willing to share your experience, including any issues you have had, it would be greatly appreciated.
