Transforming Teen Services - YALSA Need ideas for teen programming? Come explore Youth Voice & Choice at this workshop via a framework for teen services called Connected Learning (CL) that uses the building blocks of teen interests, relationships with peers and caring adults and opportunities (from college and career to leadership and civic engagement). This workshop will also cover the basics of Computational Thinking (CT), which is a problem-solving framework, not coding or computer science -- and no technology is required! This is a great way for library staff who are less comfortable with tech to build STEM programs. This workshop is participatory & hands-on, and will help participants scaffold knowledge they may already have about CL and CT and use it to recognize the ways in which CT supports CL. Today we are hosting the class from Hillsdale Beauty Academy for face painting. We are overwhelmed with kids!!! and we are loving it!!!! Today is a half day of school, tonight it the big football game and tomorrow is Downtown Trick or Treat... the students are having as much fun as the kids! We are looking into pairing with the academy for winter homecoming and sub-deb dance as well. They do hair, glamour makeup and such..... Thank you to you BIG libraries that mentioned this at a conference....we adapted and it is going very well. Joann @ Hudson Library

Library Art Exhibit

Hello All, Question about donations/contributions. Our library has a rotating "Art at the Library" exhibit to highlight local artists. This process is submission proposal based. Currently we have an artist wanting to donate all potential contributions to our library. I presume this is allowable. If not, please advise. If so, what parameters should I set? For example, are price listings fine? Or leave all price value out of sight for patrons+ visitors? I would think to leave pricing behind circ desk, but didn't see any exact rules on this, and I've seen many other libraries have $value below displayed art. If a guest wants to acquire a specific art piece, can the library take that check/cash, or should all transaction occur strictly between the artist and the interested party? If the library can take that check, must it go into Friends of Library account, or can it be allocated elsewhere? Thanks for your experience and help.
