Interested in exploring new resource products for your library, but don’t have a lot of time to learn the ins and outs of individual databases, software, eJournal, and eBook sources? MCLS’s fall lightning webinars can help. During November, MCLS will offer three online lightning webinars: • Public Libraries Lightning Webinar, Wednesday, Nov. 13, 10:30am-12pm Eastern (9:30-11am Central) • Academic Libraries Lightning Webinar, Thursday, Nov. 14, 2-3:30pm Eastern (1-2:30pm Central) • New Vendor Lightning Webinar, Wednesday, Nov. 20, 10-11:30am Eastern (9-10:30am Central) The webinars will feature a variety of vendors, including vendors currently working with MCLS, like EBSCO, Gale, ProQuest, and SAGE, as well as vendors new to MCLS like Cabell’s, RedLink, and medici.tv. Vendors will have 10 minutes to highlight a specific product and demonstrate its functionality. These webinars will be a great opportunity for library staff to see products in action. Copies of Beloved?

Hey, all, This message came across my FB feed this morning. Any libraries out there have any gently used copies bound for the recycling bin? Maybe send them over to Cass instead? -------------------------------- Soooo ... I told my seniors to get *Beloved* at the start of the school year. I reminded them several times. I told them I don’t have enough copies to loan so get it if you can. Now - I sent them a message last night that if they need to borrow a copy, they need to come see me BEFORE 1st hour. (I only have about 45-50 copies and I have 155 seniors.) So many still needed the book a bunch of them got to school before I did at 7:30 to make sure they got a copy. This is what I had left at the end of 1st hour. If anyone out there in cyber space wants to mail me your old copy - or buy a copy from Amazon and send as a gift to me to the school, the address is Vicki Green, c/o Cass Technical High School, Detroit, MI 48201. I’d be sooo happy to get like 25-30 more copies. Help me help the kids.

Bindery question

Hello Collective Brain - I am in search of a bindery recommendation. While we continue to phase out print, we still have a lot to bind. Are there preferred binderies? Do libraries still go through the process or simply rely on the electronic copies? Any thoughts about customer service and cost would be greatly appreciated as well. We all enjoy the feeling of being recognized by our peers for a job well done. This is your opportunity to put together a nomination packet for one of four awards being given at the Small and Rural Libraries Conference in Traverse City, April 13-15, 2020. Please consider who you know that meets the quality of excellence in the profession. Do you know someone at a small or rural library who is a leader in our profession? Do you have a Trustee or Friend who goes above and beyond the call of duty to promote and advance your library? Do you know a small or rural library that truly excels? We want to hear from you! Self-nominations are accepted for the Mendel award that goes to a library and it includes a cash prize of $1,000! Nominations are due by Friday, January 17, 2020 to norriss2(a)michigan.gov or by post to Sonya Schryer Norris, Library of Michigan, 702 W. Kalamazoo St., Lansing, MI 48909. There will be four awards in 2020. The categories are: * Outstanding Small/Rural Librarian Award * Trustee/Friend Award * Patron Service Award (includes children's services) * The June B.
