Board Meeting - remote attendance by community members ADA
by Andrea Ingmire 14 Feb '22

14 Feb '22

Hi all, After Friday's Director Meeting and discussion about the OMA being subject to an ADA request for accommodation, I'm faced with just such a request from our community for remote attendance at our meeting tomorrow night. I have a whole host of questions for our lawyer, including how to handle the certification of an ADA disability for a community member. But doubtful I'll get a response back in time for this meeting...so I'm erring on the side of accommodating even when it might not be strictly "required." We'll be better prepared for March's meeting. I'm wondering if this is a one off situation, or a portent of things to come. Thus, my questions for you all: ~ Any libraries still broadcasting their board meetings live? We've been posting audio recordings of our meetings since we stopped meeting via zoom this summer. ~ If you are streaming live, what equipment are you using? How is the patron able to interact with the board? As always, Thanks for your responses! by Katie Rothley 14 Feb '22

14 Feb '22

Dear Michlib-L, NDL invites you to join us this Thursday, February 17 at 7 PM via zoom for a talk & presentation with Candacy Taylor, award-winning author, photographer, cultural documentarian and curator/content specialist for an exhibition that toured in 2020 by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES). She will discuss her book, the Overground Railroad: The Green Book and the Roots of Black Travel in America (Abrams Books) and answer questions. Event description: Published from 1936 to 1966, the Green Book was hailed as the “black travel guide to America.” At that time, it was very dangerous and difficult for African-Americans to travel because black travelers couldn’t eat, sleep, or buy gas at most white-owned businesses. The Green Book listed hotels, restaurants, gas stations, and other businesses that were safe for black travelers. It was a resourceful and innovative solution to a horrific problem. It took courage to be listed in the Green Book, and [ https://catalog.tln.lib.mi.us/?section=resource&resourceid=725492462&curren… | Overground Railroad ] celebrates the stories of those who put their names in the book and stood up against segregation.
