Colleagues, I will be joining the staff of Oxford Public Library as Head of Adult Services in January 2022. I am excited to announce that Dennis Hillers, MSLIS, has been hired as the new Director of Addison Twp Library! Dennis brings his passion and vision for library services founded in his love for the history of the book, his experience as Coordinator and Project Archivist at the University of Detroit Mercy and Director of the Adrian Sisters Community Library. STEM Equity Framework: Building Equitable, Inclusive Library Services That Address Community Needs Cornerstones of Science and the Maryland, Idaho and Connecticut state library partners, were recently awarded a Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian IMLS grant (250085-OLS-21) entitled STEM Equity Framework: Building Equitable, Inclusive Library Services That Address Community Needs. The goal of the project is to work with state and public library leaders to develop a shared definition and attributes of a STEM Equity Library. This includes developing the strategies and the training library directors need to build operational capacity that delivers intentional equitable science and technology library services able to serve all individuals and families from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. As a first step, they want to learn about the very good work that is already occurring throughout the country that they might learn from and build on. A “do-it-yourself” program consisting of three key components: a lab with equipment for transferring audio and video and scanning photographs, documents, and slides in a public computing space; digital preservation class curricula and training for the public; and a website with equipment and workflow instructions and resources for long-term storage and preservation of analog and digital materials. What's the Memory Lab Network? In spring 2017, the Institute of Museum and Library Services awarded DC Public Library (DCPL) a National Leadership Grant to build Memory Lab preservation programs in public libraries across the U.S. based on the DCPL Memory Lab model. All Memory Lab Network partners receive training, mentoring and financial support to create digitization stations and curricula to build public knowledge and skills around the complex and paralyzing problems of personal digital archiving through their own Memory Lab programs. The project will result in open documentation and training materials for future implementations of the Memory Lab model on a global scale. How long is the Memory Lab Network project? Over one year beginning in March 2022, two staff members at each partner library will dedicate a combined 10 hours weekly to building the lab, teaching classes, and contributing to the project. The new drop-down options can cause confusion. We want to help libraries identify 1) if they need to file a 470 and 2) how to do so successfully. We will also discuss some best-practices, as well as the minimum expectations when running an E-rate procurement. The Vicksburg District Library is accepting applications for the position of Head of Circulation and Reference. This is a permanent, part-time position (30 hrs/wk) Required Duties: * Training and supervision of circulation staff * Assisting patrons with Reference needs and technology questions * Oversee the operations and management of circulation system (Verso) * Order adult fiction, audiobooks, video games, and music * Moderate monthly book club. Develop interesting programming and displays * Able to create and update brochures and other documents * Other duties as assigned Preferred Abilities: * Ability to manage WordPress website and collect statistics. * Ability to write short library articles for the local newspaper Qualifications: * Possess an MLS from an ALA accredited school or be enrolled to complete this within one year * Knowledge of Microsoft products * Strong verbal and written communication skills Starting pay: $19-$20/hr.
