Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have! >>>>> The 4th round of the Public Library Financial Management Cohort is open! We are pleased to be able to bring back the cohort for 2025/2026. If you have managerial financial responsibilities and want to learn more about public library financial management, please review the information below and sign up! The Library of Michigan works to provide library specific administrative training for public library staff. As part of this goal, LM is working with the University of Georgia's Carl Vinson Institute of Government to provide a public library financial management certificate program for a cohort of up to 30 public library staff members. Recommended participants may be public library directors, budget administrators, or other public library staff with managerial financial management responsibilities. This 4th round of the cohort is a 9-month series of classes focused on governmental financial accounting and policy development. The cohort does NOT include software or basic accounting instruction. The Library Financial Management Certification Program includes 6 online courses noted below and 16 instructor sessions and topical LM presentations. Participants are expected to complete all classes and attend all sessions/presentations. Local teens, called "Tale Tellers," plan, prepare, and present storytime to younger children. It has since developed into an award-winning program that continues today, with over 125 local teens participating throughout the last 16 years. This year, the teens enjoyed using the Color Our World theme, with each week's book selection based on a color of the rainbow. TLN is pleased to announce a new, statewide, pilot project for public libraries. Beginning October 1 , 2024, in conjunction with our vendor partner Brodart, TLN will offer three curated monthly collection development lists, one each of Adult Nonfiction, Juvenile/Tween, and Teen, free of charge to public libraries that wish to receive them . TLN member libraries have benefited from this service in the past and we are happy to extend this pilot to any public library in the state that may be interested. The lists, created by a TLN librarian with three+ decades of experience in this realm, generally consist of 400 to 500 Adult Nonfiction titles, 300 to 400 Juvenile/Tween titles, and 100 to 150 Teen titles. When available, multiple full text reviews from professional journals Booklist, Library Journal Pre-pub Alert, Library Journal, School Library Journal, Kirkus, Horn Book, Publisher's Weekly, and Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books, will accompany the title to assist you in your collection development decision making process. Libraries can use the lists to quickly select titles and can easily place orders to Brodart for their desired titles with a click of a button. This individual will provide strategic and operational leadership across the library system that serves the entirety of Oklahoma County, including over 800,000 people across suburban, urban, and rural areas.
