DPL Repair Cafes starting up again for the fall

Now that the branch is open on Saturdays again, the DPL Repair Cafe is starting up. We will meet from 11-1, usually on the second Saturday of the month. Our first session this season is coming up this Saturday, 9/13. It has been great to see the number of local libraries that have teamed up with the other Detroit Repair Cafe. Hosting a Scholastic book fair info

I had several requests to share my findings about hosting a Scholastic Book Fair at the library. Here is the Scholastic customer service number: 888-412-9124. I spoke with the Rep from Scholastic, and here are a few important details: They will send 5 cases with items K-8 plus table items to fill 6 tables. They have premade advertising for social media and premade posters. Profits over $3800 earn 50% scholastic dollars, under $3800 40%. These dollars do not expire. If you choose a cash option, the % is significantly less (check if this is an option at your library; it was not for ours). They provide a cash register; we would need to provide start-up $ for change. The register takes credit cards, also. All tax is rolled into the price of the books, and Scholastic takes care of the tax issues. The fair would last 1 week. We have no liability for theft. I hope this helps. Since we are considering doing this in the summer, we feel we will not hurt the school's profits when they host their fairs. Best removable labels for MeL?

Good morning, friends! I am hoping to keep staff happy by finding removable labels for MeL that are ACTUALLY removable. For years we have used Avery Removable ID Labels and they were great but for the last year or so they have been increasingly hard to remove. I would love to stick with the same size. Bloomfield Township Public Library is a Class 5 Library, with a service population of 44,253 people and has a $10.9 million annual operating budget. POSITION TITLE: Maintenance Assistant DEPARTMENT: Facility Services, reporting to Department Head HOURS: Part-time, 20 hours weekly, flexible schedule required for daytime, afternoon/evening, and weekend shifts. RESPONSIBILITIES: DIRECT PUBLIC SERVICE: * Provides positive, pleasant professional services to public in the building or on the grounds * Cleaning and maintenance care of the facility and grounds * Set up meeting rooms INDIRECT PUBLIC SERVICE: * Completes assignments and help requests * Uses current technologies for communication * Department services including facilities maintenance, grounds keeping, light electrical, plumbing and carpentry repair, painting, and office space cleaning * Follows the direction of the department head * Maintains knowledge of state-of-the art technologies and directions; follows instructions and reads service manuals for proper understanding and upkeep of equipment * Assists in the development and implementation of library policies and procedures DUTIES MAY INCLUDE: * Check email and respond to help requests for repair work or general maintenance duties * Clean study rooms, removing trash, vacuuming floor, cleaning surfaces * Assist in event preparation including moving, and setting up tables and stacking and placing chairs * Turn on audiovisual equipment and assist meeting room users * Clean community room kitchen after events; clean refrigerator, sweep and mop floor * Clean caf? tables, furniture, and service stand; sweep and mop floor * Check and clean restrooms throughout shift, including replenishing paper products * Clean all staff areas daily, wiping down fixtures, empty waste bins * Clean sidewalks of snow and debris, remove weeds around property * Clean outdoor terrace tables and seating, remove trash and remove weeds from pavers * Remove paper waste recycling and put in dumpster * Pick up trash on grounds and in parking lot * Remove trash from building and staff area * Dust furniture, fixtures, and equipment in public areas, remove cobwebs * Clean interior windows and glass, including entranceway and exit door glass * Vacuum work areas, meeting rooms, study rooms, and staff areas * Replace lighting and repair lamps in ceiling fixtures * Prepare and paint walls REQUIREMENTS: MINIMUM: * High school diploma * Experience working with cleaning materials and equipment. * Strong attention to detail * Dependable and flexible work habits. * Able to lift, push and/or pull at least 75 pounds, ability to visually review materials and discern vocal and audible tones with or without reasonable accommodation * Reliable transportation and valid current driver license required (mileage for travel reimbursed) * Desire to serve the public in a positive manner DESIRABLE: * Public library work experience * Electrical, carpentry, plumbing skills and experience APPLICATION: Due Monday, September 22. Consider joining a CSLP committee! Collaborative Summer Library Program's committees are the engine that keeps CSLP moving forward, and vibrant committees lead to a vibrant CSLP. That is why we invite all member library staff members to join a committee annually. Only through your input can we continue to improve. Sign-ups for 2026 CSLP Committees are open until October 15. While the duties vary, committee obligations generally run for one calendar year. All committee work is done virtually, either through email, or through phone or online meetings. Attending the CSLP Annual Meeting is not required. Each committee has different size and participation criteria. From Miracle Pup to Mom: Trumpet the Wolf’s Journey with Author Leokadia George
