Join the Jackson District Library team in this exciting role! We are looking for a Librarian II with a focus on children, teens and families. In this role you will provide excellent customer service to our communities and patrons and you will have system wide responsibilities as you plan and promote youth service programs. The ideal candidate will be an energetic and outgoing person who is passionate about bringing library services out into the community. This is the perfect job for someone who is excited about connecting with people, talking about books and other library materials, and bringing library services to those who need them most. Our organization is dedicated to our diversity journey and believes it should be openly discussed and celebrated as we strive to create an open and safe space full of respect where everyone can bring their whole selves to work every day. Juvenile Nonfiction - American History

Hello all! We're doing some spring cleaning in the form of weeding--especially our Non-fiction sections. At the moment, I've pulled PILES of outdated American History books, all from the late 1950s -1960s that were added into our collection in 2017 through donation or a (very) old book sale. I'm not sure where to start, but I know we need American History. Pocahontas, Paul Revere, anything about the Revolutionary or Civil Wars--really anything! What items in your Juvenile Nonfic collection do you highly recommend? (Honestly, even if it's not about America, I'd love to hear what other libraries find valuable to their nonfic collections!) Presenter Recommendation

Hi All, We had presenters here on Monday for our monthly lunch time program. They were fantastic and our patrons, of whom we had the most register in the past 6 months, were raving about them! Tim Ellis and Brad Blair are paranormal investigators and founders of the Upper Peninsula Paranormal Research Society. They also wrote two books. The first being Yoopernatural Haunts which is about the beginning of their research society and some of their investigations of locations in the UP. Their new book which is what the presentation was about, Great Lakes Monsters and Mysteries, explores the local lore and sightings of creatures and things that go bump in the night. Definitely a chilling presentation. They travelled from the Soo to our library and back all in one day. They do charge for travel and per man for the presentation but it was worth every penny. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following; other duties as assigned: · Designs, develops, tests, and implements projects according to stakeholder specifications. · Develops middleware tools to provide consistent, documented access to internal and external databases. · Assists other IT staff members with projects and coordinates work with Project Leaders. · Produces documentation, both in-code and in IT document repositories, for both technical and non-technical stakeholders. · Works with stakeholders and IT Project Leaders to produce specifications and plans for both small and large projects. · Works within both the IT departmental guidelines and project management processes, to complete projects on a timely basis and maintain constant contact with the stakeholder. · Researches new technologies and structures to maintain and update knowledge, skills and abilities. · Monitors completed projects and associated documentation, plans upgrades, and schedules implementations as needed. · Configures tools and processes for the entire IT team, including version control and development and integration testing environments. · Consults with IT staff members on project deployments and serves as a departmental resource. Requirements Minimum Qualifications include: · Bachelors’ degree in relevant field or combination of education and experience. · Experience with Bash. · Experience with Ansible. · Experience with MySQL and PostgreSQL. · Extensive experience with open-source tools and operating systems, particularly Debian Linux. · Experience using Git. · Proven ability to work within a technical team on large, multi-faceted projects. · Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Preferred Qualifications include: · Experience working effectively with a diverse community. · Experience with Drupal. · Experience with performance monitoring tools. · Experience with Docker. · Experience automating media files such as images and videos. · Experience writing scripts in PHP or Python. · Familiarity with Library operations. · Experience with open-source development. · Progressive experience developing or administering databases.
