MCLS + University of Michigan: Enrollment Now Open for “Grant Writing and Crowdfunding for Public Libraries” Course

Greetings, The Midwest Collaborative for Library Services and the University of Michigan are partnering again to extend the offer of a free pilot of the “Grant Writing and Crowdfunding for Public Libraries” course on Michigan Online. All staff of all MCLS member public libraries in both Indiana and Michigan are eligible to participate. We are very excited to share that Kristin Fontichiaro, Clinical Professor at the University of Michigan School of Information, is the instructor for this four-week, self-paced course. This course offers 6.5 contact hours for continuing education credit upon successful completion of the course. This course does not count towards university or college credit hours. The partnership represents an effort between U-M and MCLS to support professional development in public library management. Good Afternoon Library Community, We have a few things ready for a new life and a new home. 1. A mystical, magical castle that was gifted to us several years ago from Trenton Library. We are re-vamping our children's area and the castle is ready for a new life. It is big. It is heavy. It does come apart in four sections. You will need a big truck and a couple strong people to move it. 2. Four cd/dvd shelves that slide. 3. Four shelves for hanging kits. 4. Numerous, I am going to say at least 12, magazine shelves. These are the type that flip up to store items underneath. Pictures are attached. Important Upcoming Library Catalog Changes [Library of Michigan logo] Special Edition - Special Collections Update - June 21, 2022 Important Upcoming Library Catalog Changes [LM Interior]Pending Library Catalog Changes The Library of Michigan's catalog software will undergo a complete change on June 30th. During the week prior to the change on the 30th, the Library's patron record system, catalog, and circulation system will be unavailable. However, there will be a manual process in place to record checked-out materials. Here is a timeline of what to expect between now and the June 30 go-live: * June 22, 2022 - Patrons cannot submit online library card applications and Library staff must cease processing online card applications. * June 26, 2022 - Patrons will no longer be able to renew items on Answercat<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Flnks.gd%2…> and any items checked out between the 26th and the 30th will not be listed under a patron's My Library Record until after the catalog transition. * June 30, 2022 - Go live with the new catalog system. Patrons must reset their card pin numbers in order to access online resources from the Library of Michigan. Instructions for this are forthcoming as we get closer to the date. Once the system goes live on June 30, there will still be several projects to refine the software in order to make sure everything is working properly. Call for donations MLA Annual Conference 2022 silent auction event

The Michigan Library Association (MLA) will be hosting a silent auction at our Annual Conference on October 19-21, 2022 in Port Huron, Michigan. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the MLA Scholarship Fund and MLA's Equity Grant Fund. We are asking for donations of any kind to this auction: library bling, vendor give-a-ways, new books, posters, a weekend stay in a fabulous location, basically anything which could either stand alone as an auction item or could be placed in a basket along with other items. New MCLS phone numbers coming in July

Next month, MCLS will be getting new phone numbers! Our main numbers, (517) 394-2420 and toll-free (800) 530-9019, will remain the same, but all group phone numbers (e.g. Training, MeLCat Help, MeL eResources Help, etc.) and staff direct numbers will be changing. The changes will happen on July 1, 2022. Once the new phone numbers are in effect, our website Contact page<https://www.mcls.org/contact> will be updated. We will also post an update to our electronic mailing lists and update each staff member's phone number in their email signatures. Keep an eye out for our new numbers in July!
