Job Posting: Librarian 1 - Local History and Genealogy, Public Libraries of Saginaw
by Stephanie Reinhardt 12 Jun '26

12 Jun '26

The Public Libraries of Saginaw is seeking an archivist-minded librarian to lead the Local History and Genealogy (LHG) department at the historic Hoyt Library. This is a role for someone who finds genuine satisfaction in the work of making things findable. LHG holds the third-largest local history collection in Michigan, with rich archival materials documenting the people, organizations, and businesses of Saginaw. Much of this collection remains to be processed and made accessible, and this librarian will be the driving force in that work. You’ll be part of a small, dedicated team working to ensure that Saginaw’s history is preserved, discoverable, and genuinely useful to the researchers and community members who need it. This is not a back-of-house position. You’ll staff the LHG desk regularly, run public programs, supervise department staff, and collaborate across the library system. If you’re energized by variety — a morning processing a new accession, an afternoon helping someone trace their great-grandmother, an evening running a program you designed — this job might be the right fit. For more information and to apply, please see the attached posting and visit https://www.saginawlibrary.org/about/employment-volunteer-opportunities -- Stephanie Reinhardt she/her/hers Branch Head Hoyt Library Public Libraries of Saginaw 989-755-0904 x1113

Program recommendation - Qigong and sound bath by Janet Joiner
by Kelly Rembert 12 Jun '26

12 Jun '26

Hi, Last week we did 2 back to back programs presented by Janet Joiner. 5:30 - 6:30 we did a Qigong program - Enhance overall health and wellness by participating in qigong and a sound bath. Qigong is slow fluid physical movements originally practiced by ancient, indigenous peoples of China as traditional medicine. 6:30 - 7:30 we had a sound bath - A sound bath features a variety of relaxing sounds designed to reduce stress while enhancing wellbeing and a sense of calm. Feel free to bring a yoga mat or blanket to lay on. They were presented by Janet Joiner (248-291-7975 or janet_joiner(a)yahoo.com) and I was highly impressed with her. She had both programs prepared with music soundtracks that timed it perfectly. She encouraged everyone to move at their own pace and ability and showed a few different ways you could do something. We had over 30 people at both programs and about half stayed for both programs and half attended just one of the programs. She was professional to work with and brought all of the equipment for the sound bath along with 15 yoga mats to lend out to those that didn't have their own and sleep masks for all participants. Participants told me how much they enjoyed it and that they want to bring her back and do it again. She is based in Southfield but wants to travel to other libraries. Thanks, Kelly Kelly Ireland Rembert Outreach Librarian Southfield Public Library 26300 Evergreen Rd.
