Just a heads up that if you have locking cases, please make sure they're unlocked when you send them out through Mel. We've received multiple locked cases, both CD & DVD, in the last couple of weeks that are locked. We don't have a way to unlock them, so they get sent back uncirculated unfortunately. Hello everyone, Hackley Public Library is seeking a Part Time Information Specialist to join our team! In this role, you will play a key part in creating a welcoming and engaging space for young readers and their caregivers, assisting with library programs, and helping families discover all our great resources. About the Position: ● Hours: Up to 19 hours per week, including evening shifts and Saturdays. ● Starting Pay: $15.23 per hour, with opportunities for advancement. ● Union Position: This role is part of the SEIU Local 517M bargaining unit. What You’ll Do: ● Provide friendly and engaging customer service to children, teens, and adults. ● Assist patrons in finding books, resources, and digital materials appropriate for youth. ● Provide circulation desk coverage and support during youth programs, storytimes, and teen activities, allowing the YS Librarian to lead and engage participants. ● Handle library circulation duties, such as checking out and returning books and other materials, and helping people get new or updated library cards. ● Monitoring kid computers use and assisting with computer sign-ups. ● Assist children and caregivers on the use of library technology, apps, and research tools. ● Keep the Youth Services area organized, inviting, and easy to navigate. ● Ensure a safe and inclusive environment by upholding library policies. ● Assist in preparing materials for patrons to borrow in Technical Services and provide coverage at the main desk to assist patrons with inquiries, checkouts, and general library services. What We’re Looking For: ● High school diploma or equivalent required. ● Experience working with children, teens, or families in a library, educational, or customer service setting. ● Enthusiasm for children's and young adult literature. ● Strong customer service and communication skills. ● Spanish-speaking skills are a plus! ● Previous library experience preferred. Cookbooks- Better Browsing?

Has your library simplified browsing your cookbook section, without ditching dewey?? We have about 400 cookbooks (one row in our library) and I think we'd have better circulation if they were organized differently. Here's some of the thinking involved... our 2 salad cookbooks live between pizza and desserts, far away from the general cookbooks, so I'm sure browsing patrons miss them. Or a Jamie Oliver fan might see 1 cookbook in the general cooking thinking we own 1 Jamie Oliver cookbook, and they're actually more in different section. So my question to you...have you organized your cookbooks into less categories/sections, if so what are they, and what else have you learned.
