09 Jun '26

Your voice matters: Take the solo library worker survey The Association for Rural & Small Library’s national research project on solo librarians<https://www.arsl.org/imls-solo> is nearly complete — and the final piece is hearing from you. If you work in a public library in a solo or solo-ish capacity, we invite you to take our 20-minute survey<https://www.arsl.org/overcoming-obstacles-survey> on barriers to professional development, leadership, and community connection. Every response helps build a stronger, more supported future for solo library workers nationwide. Thank you, Cathy Lancaster Youth Services Coordinator Library of Michigan 702 W. E vs. J nonfiction books
by Cindy Persic 08 Jun '26

08 Jun '26

Hello library land! I'm wondering if anyone has the same issue. We have an E section which is for easy picture books and a Juvenile section for the older kids/strong readers. My quandary is when I have a book that is in between, primarily non-fiction books. We have some easy reading biographies (like the Little Golden Books Biography series) that are too easy/short/basic for the J non-fiction, but putting them in with the E picture books (which are 99% fiction) doesn't seem right. I was considering creating a separate shelf in the E section for these non-fiction books. Am I overthinking this? For reference, our E books are in separate "bins" (like at a record store) and are sorted by the first letter of the author's last name, not alphabetically on a shelf. The book that got me thinking was Comet Chaser by Pamela Turner (9781452145433). Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated! -Cindy *Cindy Persic* *Cataloger* *"Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle."*

by Steve Assarian 08 Jun '26

08 Jun '26

Everyone, I got this email from Jacquelyn Green at the Indianapolis Public Library. They have project for Library Card Sign-Up Week that's really cool: My name is Jacquelyn Green, I am the Circulation Coordinator at a library in Indianapolis, Indiana. I am trying to collect as many inactive (blank) library cards as possible. We (The Circulation Manager and I) are working on a project for the upcoming Library Card Sign-up Month and would love to add one of yours to our collection. We believe this collection would illustrate to patrons the vast number of libraries there are, and what a significant part they play in the communities they serve. If replying, please address it to me and I would be grateful if you could pass this on to other libraries in your district, county, or state. As we are hoping to get as many library cards as we can before the month of September, to participate in the exhibit "Library Cards from Around the World”! Please mail it to: Jacquelyn Green Library Service Center 2450 North Meridian Street Indianapolis, Indiana 46208 USA I already sent ours from GRPL! Let's see how many Michigan libraries we can represent.
