Hello Library Land, We recently hosted Valerie Marvin, the official curator and Capitol historian for the Michigan State Capitol. I was genuinely surprised at how entertaining and passionate she was during her Zoom presentation, especially considering it was on the day of the storm, Feb. 22nd. She gave a presentation on “*America’s Greatest Capitol Architect: E.E. Myers*,” and was very informative both during the lecture and afterward for a brief Q & A. She’s an amazing presenter and I highly recommend her. Greetings-- We have a Youth Services Library Intern position opening today. The Bloomfield Township Public Library is looking for an enthusiastic, energetic library science student committed to high quality public Library service. The Bloomfield Township Public Library is a class V Library, with a service population of 44,000+ people. There is strong community support for the Library, its collections, services and programs offered. The Library promotes inclusivity in the diverse collections and programs available to all ages and abilities. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to provide quality public service and the desire to work in a collaborative, team environment. POSITION TITLE: Library Intern DEPARTMENT: Youth Services, reporting to Department Head HOURS: Part-time, 20 hours weekly. Includes evenings and weekends. Internship limited to three years. WAGES & BENEFITS: $17.25 per hour with an increase to $18.00 after successfully completing a 90-day orientation period. Pro-rated paid time-off benefits include vacation, sick, holiday, personal business, and emergency time. Term life and disability income insurance provided. Employee Assistant Program (EAP). RESPONSIBILITIES: This is a pre-professional position that will prepare the intern for future employment in a public library. Interns will serve the public at the library’s service desks. Other regular duties include materials advisory, reference services, and helping patrons access the library’s technology services including the online catalog. Interns will work positively and collaboratively across departments to accomplish goals. Intern projects may include guided planning and copresenting programs and outreach to the community, collection development, the creation of web content, and other duties as assigned. We are also open to project ideas from interns. The goal of the internship is to provide supervised, varied experiences that prepare library science students for the work of professional librarians. Michigan Learning Channel "Summer is Fun" activity books & more!

The Michigan Learning Channel<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.michi…>, your statewide preK-12 educational programming hub, will be running our third annual "Summer is Fun" program, running mid-June through August 2023. Our goal is to support families, out-of-school programs, and libraries with quality programming and resources that encourage fun, community building, and learning all summer long. A huge component of our programming is our 100-page summer activity book series that we curate for preschool learners, early elementary learners, and upper elementary/early middle school young people. The three different books include activity pages for learning in literacy, math, science, and other content areas alongside fun, local, outdoor activities from Michigan organizations and PBS. All activity pages within the books link directly to a video and resource on our website so that families can engage with our video learning content while participating in hands-on activities. We also align the activity books with our broadcast TV schedule that reaches audiences across the state, with academic learning standards, and with the national CSLP theme "All Together Now." We would love to partner with your library to bring our summer activity books and more to your communities!
