Recommendations for delivery of materials to home-bound residents

Good afternoon, My library established a "Materials by Mail" program approximately 30 years ago to provide permanent or temporary home-bound residents with library materials at no cost to the patron. The service uses a business reply mail account through the local post office for delivery and return of each cloth mailing pouch. This program worked very successfully until the last five or so years when the postal service seemed to implode - before COVID and before the staff shortages we see now. Many mistakes on being made at our local post office and they are not taking responsibility for them. I would like to investigate other delivery services. It is not an option for us to have staff or volunteers (if we had an abundance of either) make the deliveries. I would appreciate any alternatives. Language Learning Database Query

Hi All! We are currently checking around for new language learning databases! While we are happy with our current one, it never hurts to see what's out there. Could you all assist us by answering a few questions? (If you want the compiled results we would be more than happy to share). Feel free to reply off-list! What language database do you have? How much is it per year? Does it have an app? Does it have ESL courses? Does it have a Citizenship Course? How many different languages does it have? (just a count is fine) What has your interaction with the company been like? (for example tech support help or customer service) What kind of promotional materials are offered? I am so excited to share the great news that West Maple Elementary in Birmingham Public Schools has been selected as the AASL National School Library of the Year! Congratulations to Carrie Betts, School Librarian, at West Maple Elementary School! Title: Technical Services Manager Reports to: Director Supervises: Cataloging Assistant, Processing Assistant, and Technical Services Assistant Pay Range: $46,000-$54,000 Status: Exempt; full-time. Includes benefits package. Lincoln Township Public Library in Stevensville, MI is nestled along the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan in Southwest Michigan. The library serves the townships of Lincoln, Baroda, and Royalton with a service population of 24,358. We are currently seeking an energetic and dedicated Technical Services Manager to lead our Technical Services department. This is a full-time position. The selected candidate will be expected to work well with the Head of Library Services, Library Director, Trustees, as well as other library staff and volunteers. Position reports to the Library Director. Summary: The Technical Services Manager directs the daily operations and activities of the Library’s collection selection, cataloging, interlibrary loan, plus is responsible for the strategic development and maintenance of Library collections, classification, materials, and related services and activities. This position leads the development and implementation of departmental policies and procedures that support strategic goals and objectives with an emphasis on responding to community needs. This position effectively oversees library materials and collection maintenance budget. The Technical Services Manager plays a key role in furthering and promoting Lincoln Township Public Library’s mission, vision, values, and strategic plan. This position positively influences the culture and operational success of their department and the library by approaching leadership with empathy, practicing humility, creatively solving problems, actively seeking feedback, and cultivating positive workplace relationships. Education/Experience: Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited school preferred; Bachelor’s Degree plus two or more years of library cataloging experience required • Relevant public library experience preferred. • Extensive knowledge of technical services/cataloging tasks. • Ability to effectively lead employees to maximize their productivity and potential. Expertise and proficiency with computers and related hardware. Must be able to successfully use basic office applications and the Internet. • Familiarity with integrated library systems, preferably TLC. • Knowledge of materials acquisitions, MARC records, RDA, AACR2, and Dewey Decimal Classifications. • Understanding of general accounting and budgetary concepts. • Able to achieve Level 2 Library Staff Certification or higher • Supervisory experience preferred • Must be able to sit at a computer for long periods of time doing detailed work • Must have manual dexterity, be able to reach in all directions, and manipulate objects, tools, or controls. • Must occasionally lift or move up to 40 pounds. Advice on SRP Raffles and Rewards

Hello. I'm preparing for my first Summer Reading Program for youth (0-18 years old), and could use advice from those of you with experience. Although I don't want to overemphasize rewards, I will have "goodie" baskets to raffle for each of 3 age groups (0-4 toddler; 5-11 elementary; 12-18 tween/teen). Plus I'll have a couple other rewards like oversized coloring/activity books and small items. The plan I was thinking of was to hand out raffle tickets at any summer events I host and have children put them in their age group jar. Plus, give out more raffle tickets when completing a monthly reading chart (haven't figured out # of raffle tickets for this - suggestions?). My biggest question is, when you have limited rewards, can you have the same children win more than 1 prize if their name is drawn, or do you limit the prize to one per child? Any other suggestions?
