Hi all, How does your library store and make publicly available board meeting records that are retained permanently? We've had a request from a patron for 'all minutes from the time the library was established'... This is proving to be a bit cumbersome, as it's all over the place with regard to how things were stored in the past. We have a good system from ~2000 on, but before then, it's a bit spotty. Just curious how you make these older documents available. Or do you utilize storage and only bring them out upon request?? Thanks all! Tecumseh District Library presents Private Love, Public Schools with Michigan Notable Author Christine A. Yared on Zoom on Tuesday evening, June 6, 2023, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Advocate, attorney, and author Christine A. Yared will discuss her book Private Life, Public School: Gay Teacher Under Fire. This factual account by Yared has been chosen by the Library of Michigan as one of the twenty Michigan specific books selected for 2022 Michigan Notable Books. Yared chronicles the story of Gerry Crane, a gifted music teacher in West Michigan that in 1995 married his partner and faced repercussions until he finally resigned from the school. In 2020 the US Supreme court ruled that Civil Rights law protects LGBTQ workers from employment discrimination, unfortunately Crane passed away in 1996 from a heart attack. New MAP Website Launching June 21

Hey Michlib-L, It's almost time! The new MAP website will be launching on June 21! You've been waiting patiently and the day is coming this month. Make sure you're prepared by doing the following things: 1. Change your URLS Change your URLs on your website to point to MIActivityPass.org instead of plymouthrockets.com/michiganactivitypass. The old link will no longer be correct for patrons to use after launch, but the new URL redirects to the old website right now. Please do this in advance if possible. 2. Put out your MAP Materials. If you haven't already, display the MAP materials that you received in delivery! Put out the postcards, bookmarks, and poster! 3. Celebrate the launch with us! Ganong Cemetery Historic Preservation

This past Saturday, the Westland Public Library welcomed Dr. Thomas Henthorn and students from the University of Michigan-Flint Department of History for a historic preservation program at the Butler-Ganong Cemetery in Westland, a small but interesting site comprising of about 350 interments and dates back to 1832. Dr. Henthorn and his students taught us about the proper care, cleaning, and repair of historic grave monuments. During the 3.5 hour program, we were able to clean several headstones on the site, as well as use an aluminum crane to lift and reset a headstone into its upright position. This program was made possible by the Wyatt Endowment at the University of Michigan-Flint. We worked with the Westland Historic Commission to host the program and provide further context into the site’s history. Participants gained the resources and skills to clean historic monuments on their own.
