Children's Furniture and "Monkey Mitt" Fingerplay sets
by Jocelyn Levin 30 Jan '24

30 Jan '24

Hi All, Please forgive my cross posting. Lyon Twp. Library has a children's size table with a set of four chairs to offer to any library who might be able to use them. They are too large to go through delivery, so you would need to pick them up. The Round Table is 25" tall with a 35.75" diameter. Chairs are 27.25" tall, 16" wide, and 15" deep. We also have a number of "Monkey Mitt" fingerplay sets. These will easily fit in a small mailing envelope, so just provide your library's MeL delivery number and I will send them over. Up for grabs are: - 1 Furry Glove - 1 Black Glove - 1 Monkey Mitt Rhymes Book - 5 Little Pumpkins - 3 Blind Mice - 3 Little Kittens - 5 Little Monkeys - 5 Little Ducks - 5 Little Bears - Colored Seals - B-I-N-G-O - The Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly - Little Red Riding Hood (2 different sets) If you only want some of these, let me know and I'm happy to split them for different libraries. email distribution
by Sandy Herp 30 Jan '24

30 Jan '24

I've recently accepted a Director of Engagement position at the Oxford Public Library and planning to enhance our communications and email distribution. I have a corporate background and familiar with Mailchimp, but understand that LibraryAware is a popular choice with libraries. Are there other email platforms that libraries use? Book Stumper
by Trista Reno 29 Jan '24

Hi all, A young patron came in asking about a book she recently checked out and couldn't remember the title. For the life of me I cannot seem to figure out the book and I'm hoping someone on here might know. Here's the info she gave me: It's a children's book A collection of scary stories One story was about the Baby Blue urban legend Another story was about a monster in a forest NOT a chapter book She said the size and shape was similar to a picture book, but that it was for older kids. Does this ring a bell for anyone? Resources FAFSA Toolkit Getting your students to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) can have a high return on investment when it comes to post-secondary attainment in your building. To help Principals and other educators promote FAFSA completion, Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals (MASSP) has put together a toolkit of free resources<https://massp.com/fafsa_toolkit>. Use it, share it, and let's help Michigan students maximize their post-secondary opportunities! Take Your Child to the Library Day - 2024 Take Your Child to the Library Day<https://takeyourchildtothelibrary.org/>, an international celebration that encourages families to take their children to their local public library. Take Your Child to the Library Day is held annually on the first Saturday of February. To celebrate, libraries across the country and around the world welcome families with programs, activities, and special events. Since 2011, more than 1,735 libraries have participated, serving 56.54 million people and drawing attention to the importance of the library in the lives of children. Last year, the Take Your Child to the Library Day team launched a new public-facing website: takeyourchildtothelibrary.org<https://takeyourchildtothelibrary.org/>. The site features information about Take Your Child to the Library Day and the benefits of libraries for children, including an interactive map for families to find a participating library near them. Coming soon is a librarian resource page with information and tools to make participating even easier. We are asking for libraries across the country to register and participate. Participation is completely customizable - it can be as simple as handing out bookmarks, or as elaborate as a full day extravaganza. Registration is simple and free through this form<https://forms.gle/NV9TyfWMa2FmiU6x7>. When libraries register, they'll be placed on the map<https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1vrANMe1XODWA6rgJZB46u-l7uhotOMs&usp…> for their community to find. Libraries can get information and inspiration from these short videos: * How to register<https://www.wevideo.com/view/3174758007> * Planning your events<https://www.wevideo.com/view/3174716878> * Making a publicity plan<https://www.wevideo.com/view/3184666578> * We are held a brief info session<https://youtu.be/DetX69XaBjc?si=0jI0w0R4sktraCz9> on Thursday, October 19. Hello LibraryLand. A week ago I sent an email asking if libraries had a temporary card type especially in regards to foster children. I have compiled all of the responses and have attached them as a PDF. I included the library and the person who contacted me about this, if YOU need to ask them more questions. A huge THANK YOU to everyone who passed along and helped crowd source this information! I appreciate this all very much as I begin to prepare to bring this to my next board meeting!
