As a personal owner of an Oculus Quest 2 with four kids, it is an absolute pain and very involved to log in/log out, and you must have a Facebook account/Meta to operate it. If you have tech-savvy folks willing to help patron, give it a shot as it would be a unique offering for your community. If not, you might face a headache with privacy and operation concerns. I'm hoping to get some info from anyone who has a VR headset as part of the collection, that patrons can borrow. We have an Oculus Quest that I'd like to let people check out, but I'm not really sure how to make it work. It's easy enough to have a list of the pieces and make sure it all comes back, but I'm not sure what to do in regards to other concerns, like making sure patrons don't download new software, clearing out any personal data, sharing login information if it's needed, things like that. The Clarke Historical Library at Central Michigan University has two programs in the next week that might be of interest to people across the state. Attached are two virtual flyers for those who are interested. On Tuesday, February 27, we will host Dr. Melissa Croghan speaking about her Michigan Notable Book Award-winning work, Great Women of Mackinac Matriarchs of Mackinac connected with one another across class and ethnic boundaries, and established a civic society that islanders depend on today. Overlooked in history, these town leaders were both Anishinaabe and white. Inventive and persevering in a time when they had few rights of their own, their dramatic stories serve as role models today. This ONLINE program begins at 7:00 pm and will be broadcast via Webex, CMU's virtual meeting platform. Ms. Romney will present, "Collecting Children's Books: Where We've Been, Where We're Going, and How You're a Part of It." Children's books reflect their times, places, and cultures in endlessly interesting ways-and children's book collecting reflects our own values as we consider what should be preserved and why. This lecture will provide an overview of the basics of book collecting with a special look at the past, present, and future of collecting children's books: which stories we value, how we tell stories through collecting, and how these books' stories intersect with those of our own. Assistant Director position available at Manistee County Library

The Manistee County Library is seeking a highly motivated individual with strong leadership, administrative, and organizational skills to be our new Assistant Director. The Manistee County Library is a county-wide system with a main library and five branches. The ideal candidate is optimistic about the future of libraries and is a proven manager who can work collaboratively with the Library Board and Staff. The Assistant Director will be proactive, highly organized and dedicated. This person will report to the Executive Director and will assist with daily operations, HR needs, and the overall management of the Library System. This position is responsible for the supervision and evaluation of Branch Managers, and assumes responsibility for library operations in the absence of the Executive Director. This position requires some evening and weekend hours. Full-time with excellent benefits. Education: Bachelor’s Degree Required. Experience: Three to five years of experience in a public library with demonstrated knowledge of the use of an automated library system and changing technology. Two years of supervisory experience is required.
