MCLS offering Supervisor Series workshops this spring

The Midwest Collaborative for Library Services is offering three management-focused virtual workshops in its Supervisor Series this spring. The workshops, held over Zoom, are designed to be as engaging and interactive as an in-person workshop, and each workshop includes individual and group activities, discussion, and hands-on practice. The workshops being offered are: * Motivating Employees to Be Their Best - Thursday, February 29, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Eastern (9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Central): This workshop is designed to help supervisors discover how to tailor their leadership and communication style to suit the needs of their employees and find intrinsic methods of motivation. We had such a wonderfully collaborative conversation with small and rural Indiana and Michigan library staff in January, we wanted to keep the conversations going with a POP-UP Virtual Dialogue! We invite small and rural library staff to join us again on Wednesday, February 21 from 10:30 a.m. to noon Eastern (9:30-11:00 a.m. Central) as we dialogue around how we engage with and reach people in our communities. We all have a core contingent that use our libraries in various ways, but how do we go beyond our current patrons and supporters to reach others? MCLS Virtual Dialogues are not courses or webinars, but rather guided conversations with fellow library workers of different experience levels from all over Indiana and Michigan. They are a time to share your experiences and learn from each other. We hope to connect you with others who might be facing similar situations and can relate to your struggles and joys. Directorship posting coming in April

The post of Parchment Community Library Director will be open upon my retirement in September. This message comes in advance of the official posting in April, so that those who might be interested in applying can begin prepping their resumes. Parchment<https://www.parchment.org/>, Michigan, is located a mile north of Kalamazoo. Like so many river towns in Kalamazoo County, it began with the construction of a paper mill. The founder of the Kalamazoo Vegetable Parchment Company designed a model community around his mill in the early decades of the 20th century, with many amenities for workers and their families. Though the mill closed in 2001, a strong sense of community endures. The beautiful 40-acre Kindleberger Park<https://www.parchment.org/kindleberger-park/> is the site of the annual festival of the performing arts<https://kindlebergerarts.org/> including a 5-day festival and a series of free concerts all summer long. The Parchment Community Library<https://www.parchmentlibrary.org/> is located in the heart of town, just in front of the park and across the street from the ice cream parlor. The current building was constructed in 1989. PCL is a Class III library serving a district of 10,000 residents. The library enjoys strong support with 2 mils voted in perpetuity in 2002, an active Friends group, and many volunteers who help with everything from programming to landscape maintenance. The library facility has been well maintained and boasts an excellent Community Room on the lower level that can seat 100. The library began as an all-volunteer organization in 1963. We currently have a skilled and energetic staff of twelve including a Children's Librarian who does our juvenile and tween programming and a Library Ambassador who does our adult, teen, and general programming and library outreach. Michigan Tax Forms

Thanks for all your responses! Here's a summary: - Some libraries don't bother ordering and just print as needed. - Some libraries ordered forms and still haven't gotten them. - Some didn't know that we needed to order Michigan forms so they're in the same boat we are. - To order Michigan forms, email Heather at TreasForm2Me(a)michigan.gov - To order IRS forms, email WI.TFOP.Administrator(a)irs.gov to request an 8635 order form. We have Federal forms, but I'll try emailing to request Michigan forms. I'm not sure if I'll get forms this year or not, but it's worth a try. Have a great day!
