New Items Shelving/Processing Question
by Brown, Kathy 02 Sep '26

02 Sep '26

Hello all, We currently use shelf location and pop-up notes at check-in on our library catalog to indicate which items get shelved in our NEW materials area. This works most of the time, but we have had a number of NEW items ending up in our regular collections lately. How do other libraries with designated NEW areas handle/process new items to help ensure that they get re-shelved in the NEW area and don't end up in regular collections? Thanks, [cid:image001.png@01DD3A23.5859A800] Kathy Brown, MLIS Supervisor of Information Services Grace A. Dow Memorial Library 1710 W. We have a record number of registrations this year, but we do still have about 25 spots left, so if you have been thinking it over before registering, now is the time to do so. (link below) https://uprlc.org/uprlc-annual-conference-committee/ This year's conference is being held at Northern Michigan University's newly renovated Northern Center in scenic Marquette, MI. The conference will be starting at noon on Monday, September 21st and will wrap up at 4:30pm on Tuesday, September 22nd. All spots in our post-conference workshops are full at this time. You are welcome to sign up for the waiting list for the AI Workshop with Kristin Fontichiaro, but no guarantees that you will be able to attend. Finally, we will hear from a panel of Library of Michigan staff members on all things LM. Library of Things Question
by Andrus, Miriam 01 Sep '26

01 Sep '26

Hello Fellow Librarians, We recently purchased an ice cream maker (Breville Smart Scoop) for our Library of Things, and it is proving to be very popular. I am curious if other libraries have food type items that they circulate, are they popular, and what are they? Thanks in advance. -Miriam [cid:033c4ab2-70b4-42ee-b518-eaf70654fb30] Miriam Andrus, MLS Director, Grace A. Dow Memorial Library 1710 W.
