This individual will guide the Kenosha Public Library (KPL) and the Kenosha County Library System (KCLS) into the future by continuing to embrace a diverse and growing population and offering relevant and first-rate spaces, collections, programs, and services. Building upon a solid history of community engagement, the new director will be an advocate for intellectual freedom and open access to information. They will also be a champion for ensuring our libraries remain a welcoming, safe and supportive environment for all members of the community, regardless of background or socioeconomic status. Kenosha Public Library serves approximately four neighborhood locations, has two outreach vehicles, and a new children’s library that opened its doors in July 2024. With a team of 84 dedicated staff, KPL serves as the resource library for the Kenosha County Library System. KCLS comprises KPL and Community Library, which has two locations in Salem Lakes and Twin Lakes. Kenosha is a city rich in history and community spirit, nestled in the southeastern corner of Wisconsin along the shores of Lake Michigan. With a population of nearly 100,000, it is the fourth largest city in Wisconsin. What stands out about Kenosha is the uniqueness of the city: locally owned multigenerational businesses and restaurants located in a vibrant downtown, electric streetcars, lighthouses, and a castle full of cheese<https://www.marscheese.com/>. Responsibilities: Reporting to the Library Board of Trustees, the Library Director serves as the Chief Executive Officer for both the Kenosha Public Library and the Kenosha County Library System. This leadership role involves strategic planning, organization, direction, and evaluation of all library functions, operations, and activities. In collaboration with the library board, the director is responsible for creating and implementing an operating plan, budget, and procedures to ensure quality patron service, community relations, and equitable access to library resources for all residents. With significant autonomy, the director administers library programs and policies approved by the board to achieve short- and long-term goals aligned with the organization’s Mission and Vision Statement. Qualifications: A master’s degree in library and information science from an ALA-accredited college or university and Grade 1 Wisconsin Library Certificate<https://dpi.wi.gov/libraries/public-libraries/governance-administration/dir…> eligibility is required. Five years of progressively responsible full-time experience in public libraries, including at least three years of recent management experience in a public library is also required. Compensation: The hiring salary range is $117,000 – $127,000 (with placement negotiable dependent on experience and qualifications) and an excellent fringe benefits package. Digital Image Programs Available for Public Libraries & Community Groups - Scheduling for Winter and Spring 2025

Hi everyone - I hope you are well. I am happy to share that I now have three different programs on digital photography that are available to your public libraries and community groups. I can present these sessions both in-person or virtually for libraries and cultural/community organizations in Michigan and elsewhere. The three presentations are: Managing Digital Images: Finding, Saving, Sharing and Organizing The Pictures of Your Life! https://www.squirreldude.com/photography-programs/managing-digital-images Seems that everyone is a photographer these days. We use our smartphones, our tablets, and even some people even use cameras. With the ease of taking pictures, we find ourselves with a new concern. How do we manage, save and share these pictures? This program will introduce you to photo sharing services that are available from companies such as Google, Apple, facebook and flickr (among others) and how to organize them for easy retrieval. We will look at ways to organize, backup and share pictures with friends and family. We will also explore how images are found by others (using tags or search terms), if you want to share more broadly. This could be the perfect session if you want to do something with all those pictures on your phone or clogging up your SD card! The Ever-present Camera: Understanding Photography On Your Smartphone https://www.squirreldude.com/photography-programs/everpresent-camera The smartphone has revolutionized photography by enabling almost everyone to have a camera with them at all times. With the introduction of the iPhone in 2007 and Android phones a year later, the number of photos taken with phones far outnumbers the ones taken with digital cameras of any kind. This program is designed to provide an overview of smartphone photography, storage and some best practices so you can make the best use out of this amazing tool. The Bag on the Beach: Artificial Intelligence and Photo Organization - Opportunities and Limitations https://www.squirreldude.com/photography-programs/bag-on-the-beach While we have benefited from artificial intelligence (AI) for years, the development of using Generative AI over the past few years has potentially transformed our interactions with technology. Long since the days of predictive text that guesses what you might type next, AI now creates content, pictures and just about everything else. The power of AI can also be a very attractive tool when it comes to making life easier, but it may not be the cure-all that people are hoping for. In this fast-changing environment where AI is being used everywhere, we will learn about the benefits and drawbacks of AI as an organization tool for your digital pictures. October 14th virtual event to get in the spooky mood

On October 14th, Fraser Public Library is hosting Dianna Stampfler as she talks about her book "Michigan's Haunted Lighthouses" and takes us through the spooky history of our lights. What is it about lighthouses that attract ghostly spirits? Maybe it's simply a passion that will not go away. Lighthouse keepers were known to be extremely dedicated to their profession and it seems that many were never able to give it up — even after death. More than 30 lights in Michigan are rumored to be haunted. From the smell of cigar smoke at Seul Choix Point Light to the mysterious housekeeping at White River Light Station and the antics at Waugoshance Shoal, these stories will entertain all ages. This popular program is coming from the pages of "Michigan's Haunted Lighthouses" — a book by Dianna Stampfler.
