Is anyone using Microsoft Office 365 for Non-Profits? We have been approached by a patron who is a PMP with Microsoft and is promoting it as a way to reduce our tech costs. Hockey Town program

He has just written a book called Original Six Dynasties: The Detroit Red Wings. This is an awesome book, loaded with photos and stories from hockey history. Bob's publisher is Biblioasis out of Canada. Bob spoke at our library on December 14th. The great snow storm of 2013 kept some fans away, but those that attended got an intimate look into this new book (published November 2013). Author Program Recommendation

The Grosse Pointe Public Library recently hosted a excellent program on two local memoirs that attracted a large crowd and we want to pass the word. Border Crossings: Coming of Age in the Czech Resistance Charles Novacek was recruited into the Czech resistance at the age of eleven, and his harrowing memoir of resistance, capture and escape has been beautifully edited and published posthumously by his widow, Sandra Novacek. It has received high praise, including the Midwest Book Award gold medal winner for Memoir, and a commendation from Madeleine Albright. Many may know Sandy from her former position as Director of the Cromaine Library. Through the Eyes of Rose John Kozak was seven years old when he escaped with his mother and older sister from oppressive Communist rule in Czechoslovakia. Benchmarking Help Needed

Looking for some statistical information from Class VI "city-run" libraries. City administration has asked me to provide statistics on the percentage of Dearborn residents that have library cards. That's fairly easy and we gather that information each fiscal year. However, they want me to benchmark against other Class VI libraries. If you find time in your busy day (and keep this kind of statistic), could you let me know how many of your active library cardholders are residents. We defined "active" as a patron who has renewed their card within the last three years. Currently, just over 31% of our residents have library cards. The vehicle was donated by Hyundai-Kia America Technical Center located in Superior Township and the Ann Arbor Automotive dealership in Scio Township. The donated vehicle replaces an aging van owned by the library. Mark Torigian of the Hyundai-Kia Technical Center and Dave Overlander of Ann Arbor Automotive visited the Ypsilanti District Library on December 6 to personally turn over the car keys. They also surprised library staff with an announcement of the donation of an additional $1,000 to cover gas and other associated expenses. In addition to delivering books, movies, and other library materials to YDL's three branches, the new car will also be used to make regular deliveries of large-print book collections to local senior residences and personal visits to homebound residents.
