Library Director position description

Hello All. I am hoping to NOT have to reinvent this. . . It has been 10 years since my position description was updated (do you think things have changed a bit in that time?) I am hoping that someone has an updated PD that I can use to update mine. We are a class two library with 40,000 items (including digital); I have two part-time staff, working 20 & 25 hours/week; we are open 40 hours/week. I Anyone wishing to share their work with me would be most appreciated! The Digital Inclusion Survey funded by IMLS

Dear Public Library Directors, Please participate in the Digital Inclusion Survey funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services by November 15th 2013. The survey will generate unique and valuable data in the areas of digital literacy, economic and workforce development, civic engagement, and public access to the internet. You can access the survey by going to http://digitalinclusion.umd.edu. The Digital Inclusion Survey is funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, and conducted by the American Library Association and the Information Policy & Access Center at the University of Maryland College Park, in partnership with the International City/County Management Association. Why is your participation important? Participation in the survey will allow your library to: * Get a better sense of your community's needs, challenges, and opportunities through interactive tools<http://digitalinclusion.umd.edu/content/interactive-map> and how your library's services add value to your community. * Communicate with decision makers about the value of your library's technology-enabled services and public access technologies. * Articulate how your library helps build a digitally inclusive community<http://digitalinclusion.umd.edu/content/di-initiatives>, supporting 21st century workforce development, digital literacy, education, and a healthy community. * Identify where your library's services and resources are meeting community needs and where there might be room for improvement or a need for new partners to extend the library's reach. Please note that the print and Web surveys are slightly different (not in terms of the questions, but in terms of layout and presentation). Can you save your answers and finish the survey later? Children's Cards - Who and How Old?

Hello all! You've been an *amazing* help on my most recent questions and we've had another one come up that'd like to some feedback on. We currently allow parent or guardian to sign up a child (under age 18) for a library card, and, in doing so, accepting legal responsibility for any fines, fees, and damages accrued on the child's card. But we've had issues with grandmothers signing up children and parents objecting. What about grown siblings? We've also had incidents of non-custodial or just not parent saying that they're parent and signing the child up. In essence, my question is: Who do you allow to sign up a child (under 18) for a Library card (parent, legal guardian, grandparent, auntie/uncle, custodial step-parent, foster parent, non-custodial parent, grown siblings) and what do you ask for in terms of proof? Early Literacy demonstration videos - Storyblocks

The Colorado State Library has the following videos as part of their Colorado Libraries for Early Literacy Initiative. These are good for parents, teachers and librarians. "check out our new Storyblocks videos at http://www.storyblocks.org/! We just added 10 new videos, including 4 in Spanish. Storyblocks is a project of CLEL-Colorado Libraries for Early Literacy-that produces short videos featuring librarians demonstrating a rhyme or song and delivering an early literacy tip. The videos are great for parents, library staff, and ECE educators alike. Produced by our statewide PBS station, they're great quality. They can be sorted into English or Spanish, as well as age group (babies, toddlers, and preschoolers). About a third are in Spanish." - from Beth Crist at the Colorado State Library. library leasing?

Toledo War - a historical presentation at the Romeo District Library on September 18

Hello, Research librarian and published local historian Alan Naldrett will give a presentation at the Romeo District Library on the Toledo War, the relatively little-known conflict between Michigan and Ohio which is continued today in their famed collegiate sports rivalry. The talk will cover such topics as the players involved, the strategies of the armies, and the background behind the entire conflict. He will be presenting on Wednesday, September 18 at 7:00 PM at the Romeo District Library's Graubner Library, located at 65821 Van Dyke in Washington Township.
