Mel.org/michigana
by Norris, Sonya (MDE) 08 Jul '14

Greetings, I wanted to let you in on the DL about a great MeL resource that you may not have all the details about. It's called MeL Michigana and it's in the black navigation bar at the top of MeL.org and can be reached directly at http://mel.org/michigana. MeL Michigana is a carefully selected set of resources that are all-Michigan, all-local, all-the-time. In the center of the page are, among other things, local history collections that are the result of an LSTA-funded digitization project. They span the U.P. digitization project, Detroit, Michigan Civil War soldiers, the War of 1812, and the Kalamazoo College Cache among many others. There's also a search box on MeL Michigana. If you're curious about what it searches, please go to at http://mel.org/help, click on "Michigana" and check out the list. There are hundreds of vetted and described web resources in a wide variety of categories including Arts & Architecture, Associations and Organizations, Business, History, Industry, Maps & Atlases, Military, Museum, Nautical and more. Thanks! And enjoy. Good afternoon everyone, After much hard work, MCLS is very pleased to announce the FULL launch of our newly redesigned website, www.mcls.org! New features We are excited to offer many new and improved features on the new MCLS website: Redesigned homepage - the homepage has been redesigned to be better organized and more intuitive, so you can find the information you need quickly. In addition, with the news photos and targeted news feeds, you can more easily stay on top of the latest news, special offers, and training classes from MCLS. Streamlined navigation - a trimmed down and more straightforward navigation to get you where you need to go quickly. Improved site search - the new site search will help you find what you need fast. Product Search - find eResources and products much more easily through searching by product type, library type and/or keyword. Upcoming Training & Events - the Training & Events list is now more intuitive, scannable and easier to use. Melba Moose You might notice the absence of Melba Moose from our new site - Melba decided it was time for retirement. She's now spending her days basking in the sunshine at Potter Park Zoo, just a few miles down the street from the MCLS offices in Lansing. (Her retirement name is 'Willow'). Please wish her well in retirement, and stop by Potter Park Zoo to say hello! Online survey During the next two weeks, please take a few minutes to check out the new MCLS website and let us know what you like, any bugs you might find, suggestions for improvement, and what else you might like to see via this online survey. We would love your feedback to help us make the new site even better. We hope that you find the new MCLS website a pleasurable experience! MAP: July 1 Almost A Record Setting Day!
by Jim Flury 08 Jul '14

08 Jul '14

All, In perusing the Michigan Activity Pass (MAP) stats this morning I learned that yesterday, July 1, we came within one checkout of setting an all-time record for most MAP passes checked out in a single day! The all-time record was set, as you would expect, on the debut go-live date of the statewide online MAP program, which was May 24, 2013. Many of your library patrons will enjoy visiting neat attractions during the upcoming long holiday weekend, venues such as the Grand Traverse Lighthouse http://www.grandtraverselighthouse.com/ Michigan Science Center http://www.mi-sci.org/ Yankee Air Museum http://www.yankeeairmuseum.org/ and the University of Michigan Museum of Natural History http://www.lsa.umich.edu/ummnh/ all courtesy of the MAP program. Why is MAP usage UP nearly 10% ytd vs. last year? Because of you! How do we know this? My TLN colleague Brigette incorporated a SurveyMonkey survey into the MAP website for this year. In the survey the first question Brigette asks library patrons is: How did you hear about the Michigan Activity Pass program? Brigette shared with me this morning the results of the surveys that have been completed so far, and the answers from patrons to that question were overwhelmingly that they learned about MAP either via: 1. The library building--meaning interaction with staff, or via the posters, brochures and bookmarks we created/you printed and are displaying in your building or 2. The library website This means YOU! So, pat yourselves on the back, or take a bow, or something, and know we and more importantly your patrons, appreciate your support and promotion of the Michigan Activity Pass (MAP) program.
