by Jim Flury 23 Mar '15

23 Mar '15

All, As we've done every year since 2002, attached is a copy of our updated for 2015, spreadsheet listing average book prices for public and school libraries. The ytd data for 2015, as with the 2014 updated, final data, are from the March 12 online edition of SLJ. We will post the data to the TLN website soon, but I wanted to share this with you now, as we do get many questions from libraries about this. Please see attached the spreadsheet and pdf. Thanks. Meeting Room Rental Policies
by Darlene Hellenberg 23 Mar '15

23 Mar '15

Hello Everyone, We're working on updating our meeting room policy in the hopes of smoothing the edges and making it easy to interpret for staff and the community. I have a few questions that hopefully you'll be able to help us with: 1. One of the lines in our policy states: "All meetings shall be open to the public". Is this a rule you apply to your room rentals, and do you know if there's a law requiring this of meeting rooms in public buildings? 2. If you've had success in smoothing out your meeting room policy, we'd love to hear what you changed that made things easier for staff and/or the community? 3. Finally, if you have a policy for your meeting room that you know works really well, will you share it with us? Thank you so much, -- Darlene Hellenberg Adult Services Librarian Ferndale Area District Library (248) 547-6008

Friday, 5/8 - Library Camp Unconference at AADL
by Sara Wedell 20 Mar '15

20 Mar '15

You are invited to attend Library Camp: An Unconference on Friday, May 8, 2015: 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. This event is intended for information professionals and graduate students with an interest in libraries. It's an informal unconference-style, intended to gather people to share ideas, technologies, and to spark discussion. This event is free to attend and will be held at the Downtown Library at 343 South Fifth Avenue, Ann Arbor, MI. Click here to register. The goal is to get a bunch of people together, and let them talk about whatever they'd like to talk about, within the rough purview of libraries and library technology. We'll start with a blank schedule and get together to discuss what we'd like to talk about and fill in a few slots on the agenda. We've got time for four sessions and room for at least 4 concurrent sessions, so there could easily be 10-12 different things to talk about during the day. To help jump-start the conversation, we're proposing 4 tracks: Nontraditional Collections, Ebooks & Licensing, Special Events, Summer & Gaming. AADL staff will be on hand to talk a bit about these things at AADL, but like any unconference, the event is led by whoever shows up! Further details: http://www.aadl.org/libcamp15 We hope you can join us, and please help spread the word about this event! Thanks! See you May 8!
