Greetings Michigan library community, I wanted to let you know that many people receive Michlib-l in digest format (one email usually once a day with all of the messages since the last digest went out) and therefore cannot access attachments. The best way to get your job announcements, and for that matter other materials, seen by the most people on Michlib-l, is to put your information in the body of the message rather than as a Word doc or PDF attached to the message. Before moving forward with programs, actions, or recommendations, the members of the Task Force on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion believe it is important to understand the culture of the association, the profession, and our communities with respect to equity, diversity and inclusion. These short surveys are an opportunity to include input and ideas from the professional community while complementing the rich data collection efforts of the larger association. The Task Force recognizes that incidents of racial bias and injustice continue to occur across the country on a regular basis. This survey, however, focuses on planned attendance in Orlando (the location that prompted the creation of the Task Force), but that will have implications for future ALA conference locations. This survey is brief and intended to gather information based on your thoughts regarding conference locations as well as to follow up on responses from the first survey. The survey can be accessed at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/tfedi2. Responses will be collected through Aug. 15, 2015. ALA members and nonmembers are encouraged to participate. Please take a few minutes to answer the survey, which should take no more than seven minutes to complete. "Embracing and celebrating diversity and creating a more inclusive profession have been long-standing goals of the American Library Association. With your help, we hope to ensure these values are upheld," said Task Force co-Chairs Trevor A. Dawes and Martin L. Garnar. The ALA Task Force on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion's charge is to develop a plan and strategic actions to build more equity, diversity and inclusion among our members, the field of librarianship and our communities. The most important Task Force outcome is the public and honest conversation that generated by its plan and recommended actions. The final Task Force report will include recommendations for ensuring that a continuing focus on equity, diversity and inclusion is embedded throughout the ALA organization. Anyone ever use OCI - digitizing yearbooks

Howdy - I got a call (and an email) today from someone at OCI - Oklahoma Correctional Industries - about something called the Yearbook Project. Apparently they will scan our collection of high school yearbooks and give us a copy of them on disc... for no cost. Since it sounds too good to be true, I want to see if anyone has any experience with them / their products. I think that it is a legitimate operation, but I'm curious about quality - and getting materials back. Any information that you care to share would be appreciated. Thanks! Disc Resurfacing -- DIFFERENT QUESTION from previous thread

Hello everyone -- First, I appreciated the summary of disc resurfacing machines that Shawn compiled.... and many thanks to those of you who responded to that initial inquiry. Soon after Shawn posted the compiled responses we received a fax from a company called "ELMUSA." (http://www.elm-usa.com/#metro_page ) They supposedly send out an RTI ECOPro2 at no cost... no contract... no minimum usage requirement, and you pay them only for the discs we repair. The cost per disc is also significantly lower than what we currently pay our local video store to do. We've considered purchasing a machine directly in the past, but I just didn't think we had quite enough volume to make it a cost efficient purchase. Plus, space is always a consideration, but that is something we can potentially work around. My inquiry is twofold. Have any of you had any dealings with ELMUSA and, if so, were they good? bad? Second, if we were to do this, how loud is the ECOPro2? Can it sit behind a circulation desk and run without too much disruption (if it's only used periodically)? Hello all, Have you noticed the new button that has begun appearing next to MeL internet resources listed in the MeL Gateways<http://mel.org/index.php?P=Home>? While each database has a unique and colorful button representing the subject covered in the resource along with its name, the button for internet sites has been a generic green or gray background with "www" inside a globe - until now. Because one of the tenets of the Michigan eLibrary Collection Development Strategy<http://mel.org/files/lm_2013_MeL_CollectionDevelopmentStrategy.pdf> is to include authoritative resources that focus on Michigan and the needs and interests of our residents, we now have a button that clearly identifies an internet resource as a Michigan website. Work is underway to review every internet resource listed in MeL and to apply the Michigan website button as appropriate.
