iPad Mounts
by Emily Hudak 28 Jul '16

28 Jul '16

Hello, I'm looking into purchasing some new holders for the iPads we have available for patron use in the Youth Services area of our library. I'm wondering if anyone is using the Space iPad Flex iPad mount (https://www.maclocks.com/ipad-enclosure-ipad-mount-ipad-kiosk/space-flex-ip…) or something similar with a flexible neck and locking enclosure. I haven't been able to find reviews online, and am hoping that someone in the library world has tested this (or a similar) mount. Please reply off list to my email, hudakemi(a)btpl.org<mailto:hudakemi@btpl.org>. Thanks in advance! Emily Hudak Youth Services Librarian Bloomfield Township Public Library 248-642-5800 ext. 183

Committees
by Joann Crater 27 Jul '16

27 Jul '16

Hi.Small library. 8 member appointed board. Once upon a time, my board had a personnel committee, finance committee and a building committee. At a workshop or something, a comment was made that a board this small should not have committees. So my board abolished all committees and nowappoints ad hoc. Committees were wonderful from my point of view. What experiences, yay or nay, have you had or do you have, with or withoutcommittees? Lakeland Cooperative Continuing Education Dewey Workshop
by Melissa Huisman 27 Jul '16

27 Jul '16

Hello All, Here is the flyer for our two upcoming Continuing Ed workshops on Friday, September 16 called "Learn Tips and Tricks using the Dewey Decimal System." As most of you deal daily with Dewey - I'll give you a little more detail so that you can see how this may still help you improve your skills, even if you've been working in libraries for a few years now. The morning session "Finding Items Using Dewey" is aimed at any staff member who works with patrons to find books on a certain subject. Many times a subject is located in more than one Dewey number - and you'll learn some tips on finding all aspects of a certain topic! This would be great especially for new employees or those who always have a nagging feeling that they are missing something! The afternoon session "Assigning Call Numbers Using Dewey" is a general overview of how to assign a call number and will touch on the most often used subdivisions and tables. This would be great for folks who have been thrown into cataloging with no specific coursework behind it - but also those who just wonder why do certain numbers seem to be always tacked on to others? Both of these sessions are taught by experienced catalogers: Susan Kroes (Hackley Public Library) and Jeri Walsh-Allis (Herrick District Library. Registration is open today. You have the option of indicating whether you would like to purchase a $10 boxed lunch that will be served in between sessions. Feel free to purchase the lunch whether you sign up for just one of the sessions - or both. If you have any questions please let me know. The flyer is attached!
