Would anyone like Everybody Loves Raymond (DVD) for their collection? I am discarding seasons 1-9 and will give them to the first library that responds. Keep in mind that their packaging is bulky, each season is pretty wide and will take up a considerate amount of space on your shelves. New and enhanced features, such as "Made in Michigan" and "Trips by Topic," have been wrapped up in a refreshed design that make the bi-monthly publication easier for readers to navigate through the content. "We are very excited about the redesign of our flagship publication," commented publisher Larry J. Wagenaar, who also serves as Executive Director of the Historical Society of Michigan. "Our redesign team, led by Michigan History editor Patricia Majher, did an outstanding job in updating the look and feel of the country's most successful state history magazine and made it an even more compelling read." Edited for an audience of popular history enthusiasts, Michigan History brings to life the exciting stories of Michigan people, places, and events and their impact on the state, the nation, and the world. The updated magazine includes three new features. The first, "Made in Michigan" highlights great things that originated in the Great Lakes State-from the first practical highway snowplow and the first professional hockey league to cat litter, cornflakes and cubicles. "Trips by Topic" suggests themed tours of Michigan museums-for example, aviation museums, fishing museums, or Native-American museums-based on HSM's Historic Michigan Travel Guide. And "Wise Words" contains quotes by Michiganians or about Michigan on the many topics that have shaped our history. In addition, the book review section has been expanded to include Michigan history-related music and movies as well as books. The magazine is published six times a year and is available for $24.95 for a one-year subscription and $41.95 for a two-year subscription. Judge Grants Injunction Against PA 269/SB 571

Good news, a federal court judge today granted a request for a preliminary injunction on PA 269. This means the changes to the Michigan Campaign Finance Act impacting our free speech issues are not immediately enforceable. The new law which bans mailers, media ads or robo calls 60 days before a local ballot question was called unconstitutionally vague by the judge. Whether this success is repeated with an actual overturning of the legislation remains to be seen. Watch the MLA website for updates. Presenters on the World War I Era

Hi Everyone, Chelsea District Library is very excited about our recent grant award from the Michigan Humanities Council to support a WWI Centennial Project. In addition to an installation around town and local history research and preservation, we are interested in providing a variety of programming to commemorate WWI. I have found a few leads on my own, but I am hoping there is more out there that I may have missed. I am interested in presenters who can talk about the war itself or also about life and culture during that time. I already have a line on some sock machine knitters who can talk about how they were used to make socks for soldiers during WWI, but other things like that would also be of interest. I would particularly like to find someone to present on Rin Tin Tin. WWI reenactors are also needed. Lib Guides and Enterprise
