The successful candidate will be both a positive and practical visionary with a willingness to take challenges and explore efficiencies in new service models and library spaces. The St. Charles Public Library is poised to begin a new strategic plan continuing its community collaboration to create a welcoming, warm environment for all St. Charles citizens. Key opportunities include a potential redesign and expansion of the Library, enhancing the Director/Board relationship; coaching and mentoring a committed, excellent Library staff; and designing and executing leading edge technologies for library services. The Library Director will assist the Library Board with policy and planning; provide appropriate leadership for the Board and staff; lead and encourage a professional, dedicated and effective staff supporting library goals and objectives; prepare, manage and administer the Library's budget; understand and support the Library's fundraising efforts through the Foundation and Friends of the Library; works with other libraries and library organizations; works with local organizations and local government; develop new services, programs, and technologies promoting Library use; and works to enhance the Library facility and grounds. Desired qualifications include a thorough knowledge and understanding of library administration; knowledge of legislative, legal and financial matters affecting district libraries; and a commitment to high professional, ethical and service standards. "Is Google making us stupid?" Nicholas Carr asked, in a celebrated Atlantic Monthly cover story. Carr delves further into the question in his book The Shallows: What The Internet Is Doing To Our Brains, the selected title for "Libraries Read: 1 Book." MCLS invited library staff across Indiana and Michigan to place votes on one of four titles to select one book that we will all read and discuss together for professional development. Nicholas Carr's book captured the most votes. In The Shallows, he explores the net's intellectual and cultural consequences. MCLS encourages library staff to read the book throughout the summer, then join us in a Twitter chat and regional discussions about the book. According to Randy Dykhuis, MCLS Executive Director, "During 2014, MCLS conducted a series of community conversations with librarians throughout Indiana and Michigan, utilizing the tools from the Harwood Institute for Public Innovation. The desire to have discussions in many formats, and to communicate with one another outside of our silos was a recurring theme. State Librarian's Excellence Award 2016 - Nominations now being accepted

On behalf of State Librarian, Randy Riley: Dear Library Directors, Trustees, Institution Administrators, and Library Users, The Library of Michigan Foundation is pleased to announce that nominations for the 2016 State Librarian's Excellence Award are now being accepted. The State Librarian's Excellence Award recognizes a Michigan Library that best exemplifies excellence in customer service. Roger Mendel will sponsor the $2,000 cash prize awarded to the winning library. The Foundation is pleased to announce this year that the Citation of Excellence Award amounts have increased from $500 to $1,000. Two runners-up will be recognized with a Citation of Excellence. All three award-winners will receive trophies for public display. We hope you will consider nominating your library this year! Antique appraiser

Dear Friends, Does anyone know an antique appraiser who does appraising as a fundraiser for a library? We are looking for someone to do a fundraiser.
