by Lancaster, Catherine (MDE) 14 Apr '17

14 Apr '17

If you coordinate a youth, teen and/or adult summer reading program, please see the update (attached or below) from this week's Collaborative Summer Library Porgram's Annual Meeting. These updates include the 2019 slogan and the 2020 theme! Additionally, I'd like to share the following: Kwame Alexander, our National Summer Reading Champion, has recorded PSA's (available when you login to cslpreads.org<http://cslpreads.org> and look under Proprietary Downloads) & he has released a recommended reading list: https://www.cslpreads.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Kwame-Alexander-Recomm…. Do you do school/camp outreach? Don't forget CSLP offers ready made "Kits" for the program under the Proprietary Downloads tab on our website, once you login at www.cslpreads.org<http://www.cslpreads.org> I was elected to serve the CSLP as a Board Member-At-Large on Wednesday. I'm looking forward to being a part of decision making at CSLP and moving the organization forward as we work to provide great reading program materials & more to libraries across the country & even so far as Guam and other territorial islands. (They fly the furthest every year!) What you may not realize is that CSLP board and committees are made up of volunteers. I will keep you posted when there are calls for volunteers to serve or submit programming ideas. I encourage you to participate when the opportunity arises! Four New Michigan Code Books: Bulk Purchase Opportunity Available Through TLN
by Jim Flury 13 Apr '17

13 Apr '17

All, We are offering four new Michigan code books as a bulk purchase opportunity through The Library Network. We place the orders, ship to you via RIDES or TLN delivery, pay the invoice, and invoice your library. The invoice for your library is included with your shipment. We assess a $1.00 per book charge in order to partially offset the cost of this project. The prices noted are list; there may be a small discount depending upon how many copies we order of a given title. That said, the real savings here comes with the efficiency of having a single entity, in this case TLN, place a single purchase order for these books, as opposed to dozens of individual libraries having to do so. Here are the four titles that are being offered for bulk purchase: 1. 2015 Michigan Plumbing Code: $76.00. Goes effective April 20, 2017. 2. 2015 Michigan Building Code: $128.00. Goes effective April 20, 2017. 3. 2015 Michigan Mechanical Code: $76.00. Goes effective April 12, 2017. 4. 2015 Michigan Rehabilitation Code for Existing Buildings: $81.00. Went effective December 13, 2016 (oops, this one slipped by me. I try to catch all of them but not so much with this one it would seem). Please email your order for your code book(s) to me by no later than Friday, January 27, 2017. Library cooperative directors, please share this email with your member libraries. Thanks. by Biggs, Deb Renee (MDE) 13 Apr '17

13 Apr '17

Hello Everyone! Whether you work in a library or school and regardless of the job title, when you think about it, aren't we all educators? The audiences and the message being delivered may vary but the bottom line is collaboration and results. In MeL.org<http://mel.org/> we have a Teachers Portal<http://teachers.mel.org/> that truly has something for everyone - libraries, schools, parents, homeschoolers, administrators, and community partners. It contains PreK-12 resources, professional development opportunities, ideas for integrating MeL into classroom learning, and much more. The Teachers Portal can be a way for libraries and schools to find common ground as use of MeL.org eResources is introduced to students in the classroom and reinforced in the library during afterschool activities and off-school times. In Elementary<http://teachers.mel.org/elementary-resources> and Secondary<http://teachers.mel.org/secondary-resources> Resources look for video tutorials on using specific eResources, links to the Gale Blog<https://blog.cengage.com/>, Google Tools Videos<http://solutions.cengage.com/gale-training/video/google-tools/>, and MCLS MeL Training and Events<http://mcls.org/mel/mel-training-events/>, and more. Staff Resources<http://teachers.mel.org/staff-resources> provides links to slide decks, info sheets, training videos. Tips & Tricks<http://teachers.mel.org/tips-and-tricks> provides all kinds of insider information on features found in many MeL eResources - Primary Source Documents, Quick Click Dictionary, Resource Packs, Read Aloud/Listen, Proof of Work, Science Projects Access - and many more.
