Goodbye from Ray Arnett
by Ray Arnett 21 Sep '17

21 Sep '17

Dear Friends in the Library Community, I have accepted a call to pastor a small church in Anderson, South Carolina and recently resigned from the Fremont Area District Library effective October 20, 2017. My family and I will be moving to South Carolina that following week. Until that time, I will be at the Fremont library and may see some of you, however, I did want to express my general appreciation to my fellow library workers. I have enjoyed working with many of you over the past 16 years in Michigan libraries. It has been a very rewarding time with some challenges along the way. Thank you to each of you for your encouragement and partnership in serving the wonderful state of Michigan with quality library services. Have a wonderful fall, Ray Ray Arnett, CFRE Fremont Area District Library 104 East Main Street Fremont MI 49412 (231) 928-0243 (direct) (231) 924-3480 (231) 924-2355 (fax) rarnett(a)fremontlibrary.net

MeL Minute: BookFlix hits the stats out of the park
by Norris, Sonya (MDE) 21 Sep '17

21 Sep '17

Our new data analyst, Kathy Kosinski, has been hard at work digging deep into the MeL stats. She took a look at the numbers for the first week back to school and something very interesting caught her attention. 34% of all visitors clicking away from MeL in the first week of the school year were going to BookFlix (about 7% were going to Academic OneFile, the second place winner). That's pretty phenomenal. We have a BookFlix tip for you this week. Did you know that BookFlix has a search feature? It's true. To find it, click on "Resources" next to the apple located at the top right of the page. Once the page fully loads, click on the red "search" button near the top left of the page under the BookFlix logo. A window will open that will allow you to search BookFlix. You're welcome. Not familiar with BookFlix? BookFlix is an online literacy resource that pairs classic video storybooks from Weston Woods with related nonfiction from Children's Press and other trusted Scholastic imprints. It is published by Scholastic Inc. All the fiction/nonfiction pairs in BookFlix are categorized according to nine themes: Animals and Nature; Earth and Sky; Family and Community; People and Places; Music and Rhyme; ABC's and 1, 2, 3's; Adventure; Imagination; and Celebrations. From the Home page, click on one of the nine themes to browse the pairs in each category. Pairs are listed in alphabetical order by story title. The Browse is presented in a flipbook format. Pages can be turned by clicking the appropriate buttons; or click the tabs at the side of the book to jump to other pages. >From the Browse page, click on a pair to go to a Pair page, from which the fiction/nonfiction pair and all its elements can be accessed. To return to the Browse, click on the link at the bottom of the left-hand navigation. BookFlix is best for grades PreK - 2 and can be used in the classroom, in the home, or at a library story time. Have a great day in Library Land.
