Free Inclusion-Focused Presentation Program Opportunity for Metro Detroit Libraries and Organization

Dear colleagues, I wanted to share an *impactful, no-cost programming opportunity* for libraries and organizations in the Metro Detroit area. Mi Work Matters <https://www.miworkmatters.org/> (not part of Michigan Works) is currently booking their *30-minute Employment Ambassador Presentation* for summer and fall. This powerful, heartfelt session is designed to inspire and shift perspectives around disability inclusion in the workplace. It features stories of resilience, hope, and purpose from individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We recently hosted this program at the Novi Public Library, and it was very well-received. The Livonia Public Library also hosted a session with great feedback. It’s a meaningful way to promote inclusion and community engagement with minimal time or staffing commitment. I've attached a copy of their flyer. There is no cost to host this program, thanks to support from The FS Foundation, the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, and the Hardies Family Trust. This role reports to the User Services Librarian and works closely with three other managers to lead library public services and daily operations, ensuring exceptional customer service and planning staff and student training. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in coordinating department activities, implementing library policies, and supervising a team of staff and student employees. Temporary Applied Sciences Librarian June 2025 The University Libraries at Western Michigan University seeks candidates for a temporary Applied Sciences Liaison Librarian position. (July 2025 through June 2026) Western Michigan University (WMU) is seeking an applied sciences liaison librarian to fill a 40-hour a week, temporary position in the WMU Libraries' Instruction and Outreach Department. Tough Topics Dewey Poster-Shareable Template

Good morning Michigan libraries! Several years ago, I had seen a post on Reddit in which someone had photographed a 'tough topics' poster at a public library. The poster showed patrons where they might find some very important subjects that they might be hesitant to ask a librarian about, due to their sensitive nature. I asked one of my department's Technology Training Associates to create one for us (shout out to Kayla Steeby for her work on this 🙂) so that we could update, customize, and possibly print these to display around our department. I haven't seen anything like this for sale, so we thought we would just go ahead and make one ourselves and share it with anyone interested. I think this could be very helpful in empowering patrons to utilize library resources at their own comfort level. Library of Michigan Welcomes New Continuing Education Coordinator

I am pleased to announce that Andrea Vernola has joined the Library Development Team at the Library of Michigan as the new Continuing Education Coordinator. Andrea has served in Michigan and Illinois public libraries of all sizes for over 20 years. She was most recently the Branch Manager for the Oshtemo Branch of the Kalamazoo Public Library after many years at KPL leading children's programming and teen services. Andrea's experience includes programming and collections for babies through adults, community engagement and outreach, leadership and management, strategy and evaluation, organizational learning, and staff development. Andrea is also an experienced event coordinator, training facilitator, and lifelong learner. She will be working on updates to LM's staff certification trainings as well as coordinating webinars and in-person learning opportunities.
