*DIRECTOR –Tecumseh (Michigan) District Library* Due to the retirement of the current director, the Board of Trustees of the Tecumseh (MI) District Library is seeking an accomplished and passionate librarian to serve as the next Director and leader of a committed team of staff and Board members. The Tecumseh District Library (TDL) serves a population of over 18,000 from a single facility with a staff of 13.The library is an independent governing authority and levies a tax of 1.35 mills for dedicated support, providing an operational budget of $864,000 and allowingfor development of a fund balance. The Manistee County Library is a county-wide system with a main library and five branches. The ideal candidate is optimistic about the future of libraries and is a proven manager who can work collaboratively with library staff to deliver an exceptional customer service experience. Under the direction of the Executive Director of Library Services, assists with the overall management of the Library System. This position is responsible for the supervision and evaluation of Branch Managers. Assumes responsibility for library operations in the absence of the Executive Director of Library Services. This position requires some evening and weekend hours. Full-time with excellent benefits. Education: Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited school preferred. Michigan eLibrary Coordinator, Library Consultant 14 The Library of Michigan, located in Lansing, seeks a highly collaborative and experienced project coordinator to join their team to oversee the administration of the statewide virtual library known as the Michigan eLibrary, MeL, www.mel.org<http://www.mel.org/>. MeL provides e-resources, resource sharing services and related tools and support to more than 1,200 libraries of all types throughout the state and to nearly 10 million Michigan residents. The position coordinates overall activities and services provided by the state library for MeL, including leading the development of the program's vision, the implementation of strategies, and the monitoring of program projects and goals. The position is responsible for maintaining the successful and highly collaborative program involving a wide variety external stakeholder groups, libraries of all types, contractors, and an internal team. The MeL Coordinator should excel in both communication with stakeholder communities and large-scale project planning for a multi-faceted program. In addition to administration of the various program components the position oversees activities related to improving access and use of the virtual library program and resources by library staff. Hello - the Legislative Service Bureau recently mailed out free copies of the 2017-2018 Michigan Manual to 621 public (including branch) libraries across the state. Included with the manual is a renewal form that requires a response if you desire to remain on the mailing list. I'm including the text of the form and contact information here as well. Congratulations MeLCat Libraries . . . it’s MeLCat’s 13th birthday! MeLCat went live on January 10, 2005 when a West Bloomfield patron requested Alice Starmore’s “The Celtic collection: Twenty-five knitwear designs for men and women” from Bloomfield Township Public Library. Since that day 13 years ago: * over 430 libraries have joined * patrons have made over 11 million requests * the annual fill rate has reached 91.9% None of that would be possible without the hard work of hundreds of library staff across the state. Everyone contributes. We’ve seen items go between the far corners of the state . . . from Ironwood Carnegie Library to Monroe County Library System’s Luna Pier branch, from the Blissfield branch of Schultz-Holmes Memorial Library to Calumet Public School, from Three Oaks Township Public Library to Bayliss Public Library, and from Pickford Community Library to Reading Community Library. We expect to see the large public and academic libraries lending to the smaller libraries; they just have bigger collections. But a surprising amount of material has been lent by small K12 libraries to the largest public and academic libraries. Everyone contributes.
