Input on security gate procedures

Good afternoon everyone, I’m looking for some input on policies that you may have to assist in dealing with patrons who set off security gates. What procedures do you follow when a patron sets off the security alarm and doesn’t have a book bag, purse or backpack? What general security procedures do you have set? RIPL-Research Institute for Public Libraries 2018 Registration Opens January 17 at 1pm Eastern

Launched in 2015, the Research Institute for Public Libraries (RIPL) brings together people from across North America (rural, suburban, and urban public libraries) for an intensive, participatory learning experience. Offered by the Colorado State Library and the Colorado Library Consortium and made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, this year’s institute will take place July 29 – August 1 in Atlanta, Georgia. Participants will learn about topics such as: * designing outcome-based evaluation of programs and services * assessing your community’s aspirations, priorities, and needs * techniques for tracking public library data and using these data for planning, management, and proving worth to your community * using data and stories to demonstrate library impact Mark your calendar! Implementing BCCLS's first strategic plan, the new Executive Director, in collaboration with member libraries, will focus on the core values of efficiencies and stewardship of public monies, shared leadership, the wisdom of peer member libraries, and the public it serves. The Michigan Alliance for the Conservation of Cultural Heritage (MACCH) seeks cultural professionals from across the state of Michigan to join us as we create the future of our organization. It is an exciting time at MACCH as we look to broaden our membership and reshape our strategies to support cultural institutions in our state! The goals of the Michigan Alliance are to: - Raise awareness among Michigan citizens of the value of and necessity to preserve and protect our cultural resources. - Advocate the protection and preservation of cultural resources in professional workshops and public forums. - Support actions by individuals, organizations and government to ensure the vitality and protection of our cultural heritage. - Promote, sponsor and facilitate education and training in conservation of cultural resources and historic artifacts. We seek a diverse group of professionals from cultural institutions around the state. Board members meet roughly six times a year, by phone and/or at one of our member institutions (locations rotate). Anan Ameri is author of "The Scent of Jasmine: coming of age in Jerusalem and Damascus" one of the 374 books declared the best for 2017 by National Public Radio. In 2016, Dr. Ameri was inducted in the Michigan Women's Hall of Fame for her part in founding Dearborn's Arab American National Museum, that was established in the wake of September 11 attack on US. Neda Ulaby, NPR's art correspondent wrote about "The scent of Jasmine", the following; "A vibrant collection of vignettes evokes the author's childhood in Damascus, Syria, and Jerusalem and her coming-of-age in Amman, Jordan, and Cairo in the 1950s and '60s. Each chapter is linked by the era's heady political atmosphere, which Ameri's family fully participated in, and the aroma of jasmine, which grew in abundance in the courtyard of her grandfather's elegant Damascus home. (Photo by Thomas Reznich)Jamie Paille, who has served as facility and finance manager at the Houghton Lake Public Library since February, is to become library director in July, 2019, according to a succession plan accepted by the Houghton Lake Library Board during their Nov. 15 meeting. The plan was submitted to the board by current Library Director Kimberly Young, who said she is stepping down to pursue other interests. Young said the board chose to accept the plan “because they approved of the idea of developing the talent they have,” rather than choosing a new director from applicants in a search that was conducted from August through November. Under the plan, Paille will train under Young until she takes over the position. Paille was recently accepted at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, where she will pursue a master’s degree in library and information science through the university’s School of Information Studies. Paille, 34, and her husband Michael Paille are both 2002 graduates of Houghton Lake High School, and she currently holds a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Davenport University. She said she sought the director’s job because “There was a need. I love learning and I think I’ve found my niche here. I’m young enough to spend the next 30 years here, and we (as a family) are not going anywhere.” The Pailles have four children ages 8 to 16.
