New Circulating Library Science Collection at the Library of Michigan

The Library of Michigan is launching a Library Science Collection for Michigan librarians! We are collecting materials on a wide-range of subjects for public, academic and school libraries. If you need to information on managing computers in libraries, supervising staff or volunteers, developing your library collection, managing digital collections, doing creative Storytimes, facilities management, serving special populations of patrons, standards for school libraries, etc., you can look here. To find materials, search ANSWER<http://35.8.7.98/search~S37>, the Library of Michigan catalog, by topic, or browse the Library Science Collection<http://35.8.7.98/screens/lmftlist.html>, which is #3 on the list. You can then borrow the item through MeLCat or interlibrary loan.. Use the collection to improve your services and learn new ideas. Pass the word about it to your colleagues! Call for Proposals: Power Up Conference for Youth Services Management and Leadership

Do you have ideas to share about management and leadership in Youth Services? The University of Wisconsin-Madison Information School is pleased to offer the second Power Up Conference to share your exciting ideas! The conference will take place in Madison, Wisconsin on March 28-29, 2019. The program committee will be accepting proposals until August 3, 2018. I highly, highly recommend Tim Muxlow of Muxlow Exotics who does an outstanding educational presentation and brings a mobile reptile zoo. This is one of the best programs we've ever had. He drove three hours to get to us and charged $400.00. It's worth every penny and the adults were as fascinated as the children. Greetings! Are you looking for a way to fund a conference, workshop, online course or other continuing education? The Library of Michigan strives to support libraries' efforts to provide quality service and programming to their communities. A major element of excellent service is empowering library staff to learn and implement new skills and best practices. The Librarian Continuing Education program helps by providing financial support for library staff continuing education. Preference will be given to applicants that meet on or more of the following: * Staff who work at a library that has not received a stipend previously * First-time applicants * Staff who are attending a particular event for the first time Michigan public, academic and school library staff are eligible to apply for continuing education stipends. I was just playing with the Michigan Department of Treasury's unclaimed property search, and quite a few libraries showed up, including Branch, Canton, Detroit Public and the Flint Public (quite a few more than just those!), so you might want to search for your library and see if there's funds that you can get back. If possible, please post the attached flyer where the public will see it and include it on your website. In addition, we hope you will consider sharing the following message in any public communication channels your library provides, such as social media and newsletters.
