Advances in Library Administration and Organization: Call for chapter proposals

Call for proposals Advances in Library Administration and Organization Critical Librarianship and Library Management Publication due 2020 Series Editor: Samantha Hines, Peninsula College Volume Editor: David Ketchum, University of Oregon The critical librarianship movement has shone light on many aspects of our profession and encouraged us to question why we do things the way we do them. One area underexplored in this moment, however, is library management: Are there management practices that need to be questioned or interrogated? Are there progressive practices that have not received the recognition they deserve? ALAO seeks submissions for the “Critical Librarianship and Library Management” volume that delve beyond examples and case studies to critically examine library management. Proposals in the following areas would be of particular interest: * Implicit bias and library management/operations * Retention and hiring for diversity and inclusion * Social justice in library leadership and management This will be the first volume of Advances in Library Administration and Organization (ALAO) to publish in 2020. About the Advances in Library Administration and Organization series: ALAO<http://www.emeraldgrouppublishing.com/products/books/series.htm?id=0732-0671> offers long-form research, comprehensive discussions of theoretical developments, and in-depth accounts of evidence-based practice in library administration and organization. The series answers the questions, “How have libraries been managed, and how should they be managed?” It goes beyond a platform for the sharing of research to provide a venue for dialogue across issues in a way that traditional peer reviewed journals cannot. Through this series, practitioners glean new approaches in challenging times and collaborate on the exploration of scholarly solutions to professional quandaries. How to submit: We are currently seeking proposals for the 2019 volume on Critical Librarianship and Library Management. The books will be sent to eager children in a primary school in Swaziland, Africa, as part of the African Library Project<https://www.africanlibraryproject.org/>. Hello everyone, Woodlands Library Cooperative has set up a webinar viewing party for the upcoming workshop, *How to Respond to a Security Incident in Your Library*, sponsored by ALA and presented by Dr. Steve Albrecht. *Thursday, July 26, 2018* Webinar starts at 2:30pm Doors open at 2:00pm Albion District Library 501 S. As important as it is to try to prevent library security incidents, it’s not always possible to avoid them, and the way you respond when they happen is crucial. Dr. Steve Albrecht, a security expert and former police officer, will show you how to respond effectively. This session will take the top 10 security, behavior, crime, or emergency-related incidents that occur in libraries and describe the issues, the concerns, and the responses surrounding them. Question for Township Libraries

Hello PA 164 libraries! We are a township library and our township treasurer stated that the library cannot have its own credit card for library purchases. When I checked with our attorney, she said that technically that is correct. However, she has never come across a similar situation. So, my questions for all of you: Do you have a township-approved credit card? If not, how do you handle these kinds of small purchases? Pre-paid card? Personal credit card? Thanks again to everyone who has responded. It's easy to see how this could be a divisive issue, given the variety of answers and viewpoints I've received! Not sure yet what I'll do, or even if something needs to be done, but I'm certainly better prepared to tackle the issue now.
