Expanding Service to include a Performance Venue booked by the public or Art Museum or Historical Museum?
by Ceci Marlow 05 Dec '18

05 Dec '18

Are any of you Public Library Experts aware of any public libraries here in Michigan or the nation, who have operations responsibility for performance venue booked by the public for non-library events? Could be an art museum or a historical museum operations manager? We're looking at an interesting collaboration with our Hartland Music Hall and the Schools with Cromaine considering leasing the Hall and operating it. We need additional auditorium space; they need a cultural legacy to continue to be available (and not turn into, for example, a brewery). Any models I can look to? Your help is appreciated. Thanks ceci -- Cecilia Ann Marlow Library Director Hartland's Cromaine Library 810-632-5200, ext. 105 www.cromaine.org

2019 Innovation Award Contest for MLS Students
by White, Shannon (MDE) 05 Dec '18

05 Dec '18

Below you can find information on an award available to library science students. The award includes a cash prize of $1,000. Applications are accepted through January 31, 2019. The Gwinnett County Public Library's Innovative Librarians Award, which is co-sponsored by the School of Information at San José State University, is open to all students who are currently enrolled and pursuing a graduate degree in Library Science, or who have graduated with an MLS/MLIS within the past two years. All that's required is an idea to improve the future of public libraries. The Innovative Librarians Award recognizes those library science graduate students who put forward new ideas that improve libraries and library services. Whether large or small, these ideas have the ability to change the way people experience libraries. Nominations are judged by public librarians with years of frontline, managerial, and administrative experience. Five finalists will be selected from all properly submitted applications. Those five finalists will have their proposals published on this website and may be selected to be interviewed via podcast or webconference. One entrant will be selected from the five finalists to receive a $1,000 cash prize. Video games
by maureen＠romeodistrictlibrary.org 04 Dec '18

04 Dec '18

We keep an empty case with a copy of the same cover and with DISPLAY printed boldly in yellow across the cover in the stacks in a designated area. The patron brings the empty case up and we swap it for the real case with the actual game in it to check out to the patron. The actual games and cases are kept on a cart behind the circulation desk. When a patron checks a game out we place the empty case horizontally in the same spot the actual game was kept. When the game is returned and checked in, the case with the game goes back on the cart standing vertically, while the empty case goes back out on the shelf. So far this system has worked well for us. We have Wii, PlayStation 2, 3 and 4 and XBox and Xbox One. When we ran out of room on the cart, the PlayStation 2 games were put out on the shelf instead of an empty case. -- Maureen Swanwick Head of Circulation Romeo District Library
