Michigan newspapers
by Pacer, Matt (MDE) 06 Dec '18

06 Dec '18

Greetings Michigan Libraries, Newspapers are great research tools for library users across the state. To help improve access to Michigan newspapers, your Library of Michigan is searching for print Michigan newspaper indexes. There may be many indexes, large and small, that we do not know about, but we want to acquire copies of those print indexes to help researchers use these great resources that Michigan libraries have in their collections. The indexes do not necessarily have to be in print, they may also be digital files (Word, PDF, etc.) that can be printed. If you have print indexes or digital files, please contact me by email to discuss shipping and any other questions. We look forward to working with you on this project. Thank you. Greetings Michigan Library Community, [cid:image002.png@01D48D36.A1886D10]We have usage statistics coming in for new and returning MeL resources and we thought you'd be interested in what your colleagues are taking advantage of in MeL! First, a Top 10 list of retrievals for the first month for which we have numbers, October 2018: 1. NoveList Plus and NoveList Plus K-8 (387,094) 2. World Book Kids(354,927) 3. AtoZ Databases (192,662) 4. Academic Search Complete from ESBCO (181,359) 5. Britannica School - all levels (167,735) 6. Opposing Viewpoints in Context (95,157) 7. eBook Collections (90,237) 8. Education Source (23,596) NoveList Plus<https://widgets.ebscohost.com/prod/customerspecific/mel/auth.php?database=e…> was the #1 ask of Michigan library staff during the listening tour we conducted before the Request for Proposal was released. It's gratifying to know that we were able to deliver on this request and that it's seeing strong usage. It's also a very positive sign that AtoZ Databases<http://widgets.ebscohost.com/prod/customerspecific/mel/auth.php?database=at…>, MeL's new business resource, white pages, and criminal background search, has been adopted so quickly. If you haven't stopped by, take a moment to do so. There is also a resource for library fundraising<https://mel.org/library-staff/marketing-resources/downloadablepromos/atoz> in our Downloadable Promotional Materials section. We think you'll be pleasantly surprised. We'll be talking more in upcoming MeL Minutes about Academic Search Complete<https://widgets.ebscohost.com/prod/customerspecific/mel/auth.php?database=e…>. News from college and university librarians has been extremely positive about this addition and we want you to know more about it. There are lots of other great resources close to the Top 10 including: * MyHeritage * Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition and * Biography Reference Center Unfamiliar with any of these resources? eResource training is available on Library Staff<https://mel.org/library-staff/eresources> and Educators<https://mel.org/educators/eresources> pages. And don't forget about some great new professional development products now available for teachers through MeL including: * ERIC * Professional Development Collection (also for library staff) * Education Source You can find all three quickly and easily on the Professional Development page under "Educators"<https://mel.org/educators/professional-dev>. If you would like stats for your own library, be sure to contact the MeL Databases Help Desk staffed by the good folks at the Midwest Collaborative for Library Services (MCLS) who can assist you with that. They can be reached at meldatabaseshelp(a)mcls.org. Brought to you by the MeL Team. Supporting Michigan Libraries by Putting You First. Want more information on MeL? Donate Button
by Sharon Crotser-Toy 05 Dec '18

Greetings, one and all! Adding a donate button to our website has been on my "to do" list for a very long time. Preliminary research looks quite daunting. If you've added that option to your website, either with- or without Paypal, I'd love to hear more about the process. What's been your experience with it, also? Has it proven to be helpful? Thanks so much for any time you can spare. -Sharon -- Sharon Crotser-Toy Director *Watervliet District Library* 333 N.
