nesting flip top tables?
by Maggie McKeithan 29 Jan '20

29 Jan '20

We're in the market for new tables in our programming room. We want them to be mobile nesting flip top tables for ease of use and we'd like it if we did not have to put them together. My current favorite are the HON Huddle tables (https://www.hon.com/sites/hon.com/files/huddle_brochure.pdf) but I'd like to have another similar option to look at and price out. What brand are your tables? Where did you get them? Thanks, Maggie McKeithan Library Director Spring Lake District Library 616-846-5770 ext. 1161

Political Activities in Public Libraries
by Katie Ester 29 Jan '20

29 Jan '20

Hi Clare, I'm wondering if you can point me to any law or legal opinion on the use of public libraries for non-partisan political activity. Our Township would like to come up with a Township-wide policy that would address this. Specifically, the use of public/municipal buildings for non-campaigning activities like public forums, meet-and-greets, coffee hours with your local rep, etc. (My guess is that our Twp is looking to ban the use of our buildings for such use.) My thanks, Katie -- Katie Ester Director Shelby Township Library 51680 Van Dyke Shelby Township, MI 48316 (586) 726-2344

Birding and Pet First Aid presenters
by Rebecca Higgerson 28 Jan '20

28 Jan '20

Hello everyone! Last year we had Robyn Elman and Paul Steil from the New York City area come to Michigan libraries (they had audiences of 50-100 and were awesome!!!) to talk about birding as well as pet first aid (two different programs). Robyn just reached out to me and said they are coming back and hoping to fill the week of May 11 with more library programs. (We have already booked Tuesday, May 12 @ 7 p.m.) If you’re interested in hosting them at your library, please note they offer two options: Birding: “A mix of learning about birds in your area, apps and tools to help identify birds and starting to get into birding, basic tips on photographing birds, Instagram, and our worldwide birding travels.” Pet first aid: (This is actually how they earn their living.) “Intro that includes a talk about poisons, learning how to muzzle a pet (with practice on stuffed animals), how to create an emergency preparedness kit, and traveling with pets in the car.” Robyn says she has done “tons of live news locally and even on Fox and Friends”. Check out their IG account @acouplewithoutborders and especially their IG stories—they are so fun and amazing! If you would like to host them at your library, please contact Robyn Elman at robyn(a)inhomepetservices.com.
