Search form for Access database
by Mark Mullinax 05 Feb '20

05 Feb '20

We have created several databases from our local newspaper going back to 1880. They are Microsoft Access files covering local obituaries, marriages, births and other items. Each database contains up to nine separate columns including the person’s name, spouse, father, mother, newspaper date and so on. We would like to have search forms which could be placed on our website that would allow patrons to search the indexes. Ideally, these search forms would be capable of searching a single column or several of the columns of data at once. In addition, since these projects are ongoing, we would need to update each database periodically. Does anyone have experience with this? How did you create the search form? Did you use a vendor? If your library has something similar that doesn’t use Microsoft Access, what do you use? Thanks. Filtering Options
by Sharon Crotser-Toy 05 Feb '20

05 Feb '20

Greetings, everyone! We have recently joined the E-Rate ranks but are having difficulty using our existing equipment for filtering (this is a tech issue, very far out of my realm). I'm wondering: if you're currently filtering, what kind of software/system your library is using, pros and cons. Thanks in advance for any time you can spare for this question. It's very much appreciated! -Sharon -- Sharon Crotser-Toy Director *Watervliet District Library* 333 N. Re: [Michlib-l] Rural landscape photography program DATES ADDED!

Oops! Jackson will be in Michigan from October 5-16, 2020. :) -----Original Message----- From: Rebecca Higgerson <rhiggerson(a)brandonlibrary.org> Sent: Wednesday, February 05, 2020 9:54 AM To: 'michlib-l(a)mcls.org' <michlib-l(a)mcls.org>; 'all-tln(a)lists.tln.org' <all-tln(a)lists.tln.org> Cc: 'jackson(a)jacksonfaulkner.net' <jackson(a)jacksonfaulkner.net> Subject: Rural landscape photography program If your community is interested in fine art photography, rural landscapes, abandoned homes, then I would like to highly recommend photographer Jackson Faulkner. We hosted him in October 2018 and had a decent turnout of 14 adults (we tried to get an article in the local newspaper, but it didn’t come to pass). Jackson lives in Washington state but grew up in Michigan and comes home every fall to visit family. He’s planning on the week of October 5-10, 2020 and is willing to book at least six libraries. I have included his website and a recent interview he did, but to really get a sense of his art, check out his Instagram account @jacksonfaulknernet His passion is about capturing images of rural landscapes and documenting their history for future generations. His captions can bring you to tears; they are so beautiful. Last year he visited the following libraries: Rochester Hills Public Library. This was a great turnout! Almost 60 people. Northville Public Library. Another great turnout! Around 35 people. Adrian Public Library. Small but enthusiastic turnout. Farmington Community Library. Another great turnout! Around 40-50 people. Center Line Public Library. Small but enthusiastic turnout. He charges $150 for 1-1.5 hours. You can reach him at jackson(a)jacksonfaulkner.net https://www.roadsidereflections.com/ https://www.listennotes.com/podcasts/capturing-the/ep-1-capturing-the-aband… Thanks, Rebecca Higgerson Director Brandon Twp Public Library 304 South Street Ortonville MI 48462 248-627-1474 ENGAGE • EDUCATE • ENRICH • EMPOWER

Donation/Gift Policy for non-library items
by Andrea Ingmire 05 Feb '20

05 Feb '20

We've got book and traditional library material donations handled. Do you have a donation/gift policy for other items? We get offers all the time for dolls, collectors items, artwork etc. We have a policy, but it could use a little work... I'm very careful to not accept items unless we can actually display and/or reasonably store the items. Space is extremely limited... Looking for details like: What is collected, who makes the decision about acceptance (do you have a $ threshold for when the decision goes beyond the Director?), in-take/consideration forms, form for donor signing off ownership and understanding of policy, etc. Thanks! Lending books to schools
by Katrina Rogers 05 Feb '20

05 Feb '20

Hi all, We're working on a program to lend our library books to students through the school. Do you have a program similar to this? If you do, would you send me the policies for the program off-list? I can compile them for anyone who's interested. -- Katrina Rogers Senior Circulation and Archivist Crawford County Library p: 989-348-9214 f: 989-348-9294
