May be of interest. -Steve Steven K. To help develop programs for LGBTQ+ youth and families in our community, we’re hoping to get a feeling for what programs have been offered in other library systems. We'd like to hear from all kinds of libraries about all kinds of programs. If you could take just a few minutes to tell us about any programs you've offered that focus on the LGBTQ+ community, it would help us immensely. If you know of anyone else in your system who has offered such programming, forwarding this survey to them would be a great help to us as well. Our survey can be found here: https://forms.gle/ERpoN4SEM9tfqqcB7 I am cross-posting this message across alsc-l, glbtrt, preschsvs, ya-urban, and ya-yaac, so I apologize if you get this message more than once. Thank you for your time and assistance, Haley Horton-Loup ____________ To subscribe, unsubscribe or manage your account go to: http://lists.ala.org/sympa/info/glbtrt-l

REMINDER: Top 10 in 10 Survey Deadline - Feb 7th
by Lester, Kathy 05 Feb '20

05 Feb '20

MAME is currently asking school library supporters to please respond to the *Michigan Department of Education (MDE) Top 10 in 10 Survey* here <https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/top10planreview>. Here is the recommended way to respond: *Please respond to the survey* by adding equitable access to school libraries staffed by certified school librarians in "Other" and then rating it as one of the top 5 priorities. It is important for community members to respond, so please pass on this information to others. If you are a parent, please indicate this on your response. Background information: The new State Superintendent, Dr. Michael Rice, wants to review and update the current Top 10 in 10 plan. In the current Top 10 in 10 Goals and Strategies, item 2.7a is: *a) Ensure that all students have access to libraries and media centers within their school, district, and/or community. Ensure that such resources are appropriately staffed to ensure system integrity. * In the new survey, *providing equitable access to school libraries staffed by certified school librarians* is *not* an option in their list to rate as important; however, there is a place to add suggested priorities in "Other." I believe it will only take a few minutes to fill out the survey. Let me know if you have any questions and spread the word! Thank you! --Kathy Lester Kathy Lester, MLIS, MA *Advocacy Chair, Past-President 2014* Michigan Association for Media in Education (MAME) *Region 3 Director* American Association of School Librarians (AASL) *School Library Media Specialist / Technology Coach* *SL21 Model Library, 2017-2018* *SL21 Exemplary Ranking - Michigan School Libraries for the 21st Century 2019-2022* East Middle School, Plymouth-Canton Schools *ISTE Making IT Happen Award Winner* *2017 MAME Michigan School Library Program of the Year* *2012 **State Librarian's Excellence Award Winner* kathyL(a)mimame.org twitter: @LibraryL <https://twitter.com/LibraryL> 810.333.5873

Banjo and fiddle player Aaron Jonah Lewis
by Matt Church 04 Feb '20

04 Feb '20

Hi all, We recently had Aaron Jonah Lewis perform at the library. He's an incredibly talented banjo and fiddle player. He drew a crowd of 65 people which was a BIG crowd for us. I asked him if I could share his contact information with area libraries and his agent provided the below information. Cheers, Matt Matt Church, Library Director Berkley Public Library 3155 Coolidge Hwy. Berkley, MI 48072 248-658-3449 mchurch(a)berkleymich.net www.berkley.lib.mi.us --------- Hello. I represent Detroit-based banjo player and fiddler Aaron Jonah Lewis, who is available for concerts and workshops in the year ahead. A performance by Aaron ranges far and wide through the history of American fiddle and banjo traditions, including tunes and songs from various regions and time periods and the stories that go along with them. In addition to performances (that include information about the history of the music he's presenting), banjo and/or fiddle workshops would also be a possibility. Aaron has recently presented at the Berkley, MI and Hamtramck, MI Libraries, and last June Aaron did a workshop at the Kennedy Library in Muncie, IN. Aaron has enjoyed his work in libraries very much. Aaron recently released a recording of classic banjo tunes (see attached one sheet). See below for additional info about Aaron. Performance Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZIFB2XW7PwL Webpage: www.aaronjonahlewis.com Please contact me if you are interested in hiring Aaron Jonah Lewis, or if you have any questions.
