Event Calendar/Room Reservation Software
by Keegan M Sulecki 17 Feb '20

17 Feb '20

Hi Everyone, I apologize because I think this question came through recently, but I was not able to track it down for responses. I am investigating options for new event calendar/room reservation software for our library. We currently have Demco. I would love to hear from any libraries that have something different. If you could share information on ease of use for staff and patrons, customer service responsiveness, update frequency and how well the company responses to requests for innovation, and anything else noteworthy along with a link to your calendar, It would be very much appreciated. Please reply off list and I will compile the results to share. Thanks, Keegan [cid:image009.jpg@01D5DC04.E03DE3F0]<https://troypl.org/> Keegan Sulecki Head of Youth Services 510 W. RefQ: 1949 Alden B. Dow article in Time magazine
by Trevor Winn 14 Feb '20

14 Feb '20

Hi all, A patron is looking for an article that allegedly appeared in a 1949 issue of Time, possibly the week August 15, entitled "Modern Houses Across America." The article has been described to include information on architects such as Alden B. Dow and Frank Lloyd Wright. She is specifically interested in the article because it's said to include information about the only Dow home built in Flint for Millard Saxton seen here: https://www.usmodernist.org/dow.htm This Time article is referenced in an article by Dwell and in other blogs, and the partial citation was given to the patron by the Alden Dow studio. Before coming to us for help, she had scoured the ToCs of several years of Time and found nothing; we also found no article in Life by this title, only a reference from 1937. Searching the Time vault, to which I don't have full access, yielded nothing to indicate an article by this title. Please let me know off-list if you have suggestions - we're stumped! Does this article exist?? Have a good weekend! -Trevor [Trevor-Signature]

climate change speaker
by Stair Library 13 Feb '20

13 Feb '20

Hi all, We had an excellent speaker on climate change at our library earlier this month. (Our high school's Green Earth Club actually made the arrangements.) His presentation was very science-based, but in an easy-to-understand manner for the layperson. We continue to hear positive comments regarding it. Even though it was long (about an hour and a half), lots of people asked questions at the end and nobody left early except one student who had to be at work. Here's a link to the press coverage: https://statelineobserver.com/images/stories/e/images/stories/e/RyanShadbol… and the presenter's contact info: Dr. Ryan Shadbolt Academic Specialist | Department of Geography, Environment, and Spatial Sciences College of Social Science | Michigan State University shadbolt(a)msu.edu | 517.353.9875 | I highly recommend him!
