Labor Law Posters for 2020

Greetings everyone, Please forgive the duplication if you're seeing this multiple times (: The ordering period for the 2020 Labor Law Poster set is open now. Woodlands Library Cooperative purchases our sets from the Michigan Chamber of Commerce, which keeps funds in Michigan, and best of all, you can tell the aggressive and sometimes shady vendors who hound you and your staff that you're taken care of for the year. *Pricing*: At the most, $24 per set. We will ship to your library in a poster tube, along with a copy of your invoice. Your cost comes down as more sets are ordered. Our Programming Committee ask me to check with other libraries to see what guidelines are used when offering sign language interpretation - do you promote this service, do you require registration, how are the costs covered? MeL Minute: Scholarship & School Finders in LearningExpress Library

Greetings! Have you taken advantage of the Scholarship and School Finder tools available in LearningExpress Library<http://widgets.ebscohost.com/prod/customerspecific/mel/auth.php?database=lex>? If not, there are many benefits to accessing these Resources. To get started you must create a username/password in the LearningExpress Library. Once you’ve done that, type Scholarship Finder into the search bar on the LearningExpress landing page or access it via the Job & Career Accelerator center. Once you’ve opened Scholarship Finder, there are a variety of filters to help you find the type of scholarship you’re seeking. You can input your current GPA, SAT Composite and ACT Composite to help give you the best results, or you can simply leave those fields blank and access the information by performing a keyword search. If you type MICHIGAN (or any other state for that matter) into the search field, then all the scholarships available to students in Michigan will be returned. Today, it shows there are 2,534 scholarships available to Michigan students attending college. When I open any of the listed scholarships, I receive all the information I need to know about the scholarship: Who qualifies? What is the minimum SAT score to apply? When is the application deadline? How many scholarships are granted? Is the scholarship renewable? To further assist in your investigation of colleges, LearningExpress Library also offers a School Finder that can be accessed via the search bar or by opening Job & Career Accelerator. School Finder gives up-to-date, detailed information about every 2- and 4-year college as well as graduate programs offered throughout the United States. You can find the college that is just right for you by using the Quick Match option, where your interests align with potential colleges. It is also possible to simply type the name of a college that interests you into the search field, and a great deal of information about that school will be listed: Enrollment, type of community, ethnicity of student body, housing options, day care availability, remedial services, employment services, programs for service members and veterans, cost, financial aid availability, average SAT/ACT scores for entry, degrees offered, library holdings, and so much more! Ferndale Library's New Podcast

Thanks to the Friends of the Ferndale Library <http://ferndalefriends.org/>, we're excited to announce the launch of a new library podcast: "A Little Too Quiet." The premiere episode will be on podcast services like Spotify and iTunes starting January 3. But you can already find us on those platforms, as well as Google Podcasts. We'd love it if we could gain some early subscribers. We'll be discussing the history of this library, the evolution of all public libraries, and featuring exclusive and engaging conversations with local authors and local artists. We'll be kicking things off with author Josh Malerman, following up with authors Michael Zadoorian, Kathe Koja, along with candid and enlightening chats with our own librarians. Seeking input from libraries that may be serving refugees, immigrants, migrants and asylum seekers

The International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions, IFLA, section on Library Services to People with Special Needs would like to connect with libraries that may be serving refugees, immigrants, migrants and asylum seekers for assistance with a survey. We particularly would like input from public and school libraries who probably have the most contact with the target audience. Next spring we will be conducting indepth interviews and I'm hoping we can choose some US libraries for these interviews. The libraries chosen for the interviews will be chosen from the survey respondents. To do this we are launching the Global Survey about library services to refugees, immigrants, migrants and asylum seekers.<https://www.surveygizmo.com/s3/5255174/Global-Survey-for-library-services-t…> This survey aims to gather examples of services now being delivered worldwide by libraries to this target audience, how they are developed, staff responses, and what cooperative alliances exist to deliver these services. The deadline for the survey is: 22 December 2019. After that date, the survey will close. The survey should only take approximately 10-15 minutes. It is in English, but responders are encouraged to submit answers in any language most comfortable. Thank you for any assistance you can give.
