Arabic Books
by Valerie Meyerson 24 Feb '20

24 Feb '20

Hello all - I have a patron that would like to donate books written in Arabic. They are in pretty good condition. She has about 250 books. Most are fiction (many romance) and some non-fiction. We do not have a foreign language collection so wondering if anyone out there would like them. If you are interested, please let me know your RIDES code and we'll send them along. Thank you - Valerie Meyerson, Library Director Petoskey District Library [jpg Blue Small] Please think about the environment prior to printing this email.

tech-logic for self-checkout
by Reed, Nyama 24 Feb '20

24 Feb '20

Hello Everyone, We have had Bibliotheca rfid and self-check for several years; purchased as 3M. The ongoing maintenance costs are getting prohibitive and keep us from getting a 2nd self-check. I have an appt with the Tech-Logic rep at PLA this week and am looking for input from those who have used them. Who among you uses tech-logic? What has been your experience for upfront costs and long-term maintenance? How is their customer service once in place? And if you have switched from 3M/Bibliotheca what your opinion of the difference? Feel free to message me directly and I will distribute a summary to the listserv later. Have a wonderful day, Nyama Nyama Y. Bring the Smithsonian to your community in 2021
by Norris, Sonya (MDE) 24 Feb '20

24 Feb '20

On behalf of James Nelson, Director of Grants, Michigan Humanities Council: jnelson(a)mihumanities.org Sonya Schryer Norris 517-335-1498 >>> Bring the Smithsonian to your community in 2021 Michigan Humanities is partnering with the Smithsonian's Museum on Main Street program to bring the traveling exhibit Voices and Votes: Democracy in America to Michigan in 2021. Six host communities will have the opportunity to host the exhibit rent-free for six weeks. When American revolutionaries waged a war for independence they took a leap of faith that sent ripple effects across generations. They embraced a radical idea of establishing a government that entrusted the power of the nation not in a monarchy, but in its citizens. That great leap sparked questions that continue to impact Americans: who has the right to vote, what are the freedoms and responsibilities of citizens, and whose voices will be heard? Voices and Votes: Democracy in America will be a springboard for discussions about those very questions and how they are reflected in local stories. Voices and Votes is based on a major exhibition currently on display at the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History. This Museum on Main Street adaptation will have many of the same dynamic features: historical and contemporary photos; educational and archival video; engaging multimedia interactives with short games and additional footage, photos, and information; and historical objects like campaign souvenirs, voter memorabilia, and protest material. To learn more about becoming a host site and to apply please visit the Michigan Humanities website: https://www.michiganhumanities.org/<https://gcc01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.michi…> For questions about the exhibit please contact Director of Grants, James Nelson, by email (jnelson(a)mihumanities.org<mailto:jnelson@mihumanities.org>) or phone (517-372-7770).

Request for Sample RFP for moving services
by Eric Magness-Eubank 24 Feb '20

24 Feb '20

We are getting ready to renovate our facility in the near future. Unfortunately, we will need to move part of our service to a temporary location, and will also have several major internal shifts to facilitate project phasing. I know there was a thread on moving companies back in November, but does anyone have a copy of an issued RFP for moving services or similar document? I would like to review some before going too far into the process of selecting a firm. Thanks for any info and/or advice you can offer. Eric Magness-Eubank Library Director Alpena County George N. Secretary of State request for help regarding REAL ID
by Simlar, Cathleen (MDOS) 24 Feb '20

24 Feb '20

Hello. As part of an ongoing effort to alert the public about the upcoming deadline for REAL ID, Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson asked me to once again request your assistance. As you know, this federally mandated requirement for identification means standard state-issued driver's licenses and identification cards will no longer be accepted for boarding domestic flights within the United States, or when entering certain federal facilities, beginning Oct. 1. Currently, just 47 percent of Michigan driver's licenses and state ID cards are REAL-ID compliant which means raising public awareness is a high priority. Here's how you can help ... We're hoping you can once again assist in spreading the word about REAL ID both internally with your own staff and externally through your organization's communication channels. To make things simple, we've updated our online toolkit that can be easily accessed through the following links: * Text that can be shared on websites, via email or in newsletters (short message<https://www.michigan.gov/documents/sos/REAL_ID_Short_Article_681703_7.docx>) * Various images to share on social * Deadline for REAL ID (image)<https://www.Michigan.gov/images/sos/REAL_ID_Deadline_Image_681708_7.png> * Are you ready for REAL ID? (image)<https://www.Michigan.gov/images/sos/Are_you_ready_for_REAL_ID_681705_7.png> * Make an appointment to get a REAL ID (image)<https://www.Michigan.gov/images/sos/Make_an_appointment_for_REAL_ID_681707_…> * Documents you'll need to bring to the SOS for REAL ID (image)<https://www.Michigan.gov/images/sos/Bring_these_docs_to_SOS_681706_7.png> * A flyer that can be posted (full color<https://www.michigan.gov/documents/sos/FLIER_full_color_REAL_ID_8_x_11_6624…> or black/white<https://www.michigan.gov/documents/sos/FLIER_bw_REAL_ID__8_x_11_662455_7.pdf>). * Images that can accompany any communication you share (circular image<https://www.michigan.gov/images/sos/Circular_REAL_ID_image_662699_7.gif>, rectangular image<https://www.michigan.gov/images/sos/IMAGE_Rectangular_REALID_662457_7.png>, REAL ID driver's license image<https://www.michigan.gov/images/sos/IMAGE_REAL_ID_drivers_license_662700_7.…>). Our plan is to reach out to you periodically between now and Oct. 1 for your continued help. Please know that any assistance you provide with raising public awareness will be greatly appreciated. Hello Everyone, Here 's a quick update on what's happening at CADL. Online Surplus Store CADL now has an online store as a way to sell off old equipment. This project was put together by Desktop Specialist Jonathan Nobach, IT Director Sheryl Cormicle Knox and Finance Director Pat Taylor. Check it out here : https://www.cadl.org/surplus Blind Date with a Book We recently completed this promotion which included both a digital and physical version. According to Collection Development Director Thais Rousseau, from 2/1-2/15 we had 7,927 digital checkouts on hoopla. We found members were checking out the featured Blind Date titles, as well as additional titles through hoopla. The highest use dates were right after our first email blast about the promotion which set records for hoopla use. We had 716 checkouts on 2/2/20 and 603 on 2/3/20. The five eBooks we were promoting were the top circulating titles during that time for us, beating out even the popular audiobooks. 1. And Then There Were None -57 checkouts 2. The Gown- 39 checkouts 3. Love Lettering- 37 checkouts 4. The Yellow House- 31 checkouts 5. The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet- 22 checkouts Senior Associate Director of Public Service Jolee Hamlin added that the in-branch Blind Date collection generated approximately 1,135 checkouts.
