She has worked as a social sciences librarian and library administrator over the last 15 years, including her most recent roles as Associate College Librarian and Director of Research Services for the Reed College Library and Head of Research and Instruction Services for the University of North Texas Libraries. A 2018 Library Journal Mover and Shaker, Annie Downey has authored Critical Information Literacy: Foundations, Inspiration, and Ideas and co-authored (with Joe Marquez) Library Service Design: A LITA Guide to Holistic Assessment, Insight, and Improvement and Getting Started in Service Design. She studies, writes, and presents on service design, critical librarianship, information literacy, K-20 library instruction, assessment, women in libraries, and academic library administration. Last week the Baldwin Public Library hosted World War II historian and author John F. Wukovits for an evening program. He spoke on his latest book Dogfight Over Tokyo: The Final Air Battle of the Pacific and the Last Four Men to Die in World War II and was excellent! John was knowledgeable, engaging, informative and entertaining, spirited, and well-received by the audience. His presentation not only told the captivating story of Dogfight Over Tokyo, it had an inspiring message as well. National Library Legislative Day!

Hi: I am the Michigan National Library Legislative Day Coordinator. I am here to work with the Michigan contingent at NLLD to liaison with ALA and generally help things go smoothly and help ensure that everyone gets to meet with their Washington representatives during this event. I am pleased to announce that registration for the American Library Association's (ALA) 45th Annual National Library Legislative Day (NLLD)<https://gcc01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=www.ala.org%2Fnlld&data…> is OPEN! This event, held in Washington D.C. on May 4-5, 2020, will provide attendees with the opportunity to learn from policy experts, network with other advocates from across the country, learn the latest advocacy techniques, and meet with decision-makers on Capitol Hill to raise awareness about the importance of libraries to communities across the country. It is a great opportunity to learn more about legislative issues affecting libraries - and to network with colleagues from all over the US! NLLD 2020 also holds in store some new features. In response to feedback from previous years' attendees, the two-day educational event has been refreshed in the following ways: * Our new venue at the Georgetown University Conference Center will offer more affordable accommodations and include dedicated breakout spaces for state delegations to meet.????? * On-site meals will provide more networking opportunities, including breakfast on both Monday and Tuesday, lunch during the briefing day on Monday, and a full welcome reception on Monday evening.??? * ALA has hired Advocacy Associates, a firm that specializes in Hill days to work closely with state coordinators throughout the congressional scheduling process.
