Book Returns
by Kay Cuthrell 18 May '20

18 May '20

I've been trying to figure out a way to allow the students to safely return books to the school in the next few months. One of my students asked me about it yesterday so I thought I'd reach out to all of you. Is there anyone out there in libraryland who knows of anywhere/anyone who might have an old fashioned book drop-box that we could borrow to place outside of our school elsewhere in the district? -- *Kay Cuthrell* *Media Specialist* *McIntyre Elementary School* -- Southfield Public Schools does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, gender, disability, age, height, weight, marital status, genetic information or any other legally protected characteristic, in its programs and activities, including employment opportunities. New Opportunities in Adult Programming Virtual Meeting - May 18 at 10am Eastern
by Shannon White - Library of Michigan 18 May '20

18 May '20

We had a great inaugural meeting last week with 300 of you for our new virtual meeting opportunity focused on adult programming. If you would like to join us next week, please check out the details below. You can find notes for each week, a link to the meeting recording, and chat logs for each week in this google folder. bit.ly/lm-adult (Recordings are available for a few weeks, but not permanently archived.) On Monday, May 18 at 10:00 am Eastern, we will hear from Don La Barre the Head of Special Collections at Alpena County George N. Fletcher Public Library. This library caught my eye because of their virtual programming during Preservation Week in late April. I thought hearing from Don would make a great topic for our next meeting on Monday. Don put together a variety of programs to celebrate Preservation Week. He will tell us how they pivoted from an idea they got from the PLA conference in February to in person plans then to virtual programs. What worked and what really didn't work out so well. Thank you Don for being willing to share your ups and downs around this effort. We will also follow up with some details on telephone programming created by the Denver Public Library. The Library of Michigan is offering these virtual discussions to bring members of our library community together to learn and share with one another. We anticipate continuing this series with new guests and topics each week. Be sure to visit out google document for our online notes & crowdsourcing at: bit.ly/lm-adult There is no need to register for this virtual discussion, just login here or just call in using the number listed below on Monday at 10:00 am Eastern. Join from PC, Mac, Linux, iOS or Android: https://michigan-host.zoom.us/j/98381393043?pwd=YkJJUkdGZFV5VEVvckVJY3g3R3h… Password: 340524 Or Telephone: 216 706 7005 OR 8664345269 (US Toll Free) Conference code: 579192 If you have questions, please feel free to let me know. by Reish, Karren (MDE) 15 May '20

15 May '20

The Library of Michigan (LM) is pleased to announce CARES Act grant program as part of LM's response to the COVID-19 crisis' impact on Michigan public libraries. The LM grant program is designed to assist public libraries in providing improved access to the Internet for their community, while maintaining a safe environment for staff and patrons. The intent is to fund one-year projects that increase public libraries' supply of personal protective equipment and facilities supplies (Goal 1) as well as increase community Internet connectivity through the purchase of Internet capable devices, hotspots or other appropriate materials and supplies (Goal 2). The application due date is four weeks after the EO closing libraries to public accommodation is lifted to give libraries time to get back in their buildings and assess their needs. Applicants may request materials and supplies, and services related to either or both the grant program goals. Eligible applicants are Michigan public libraries or tribal libraries who meet the guidelines listed in the application packet. Libraries may submit one application for this program. Branch libraries may NOT apply separately. The number and amount of grant awards will depend on the funds available and the number of applications received. For the CARES Act Grant, the grant awards will be as follows: Goal 1 - For PPE equipment and facilities supplies and services: * $500 per main library location; $300 per branch location All eligible requests for Goal 1 will be funded. Goal 2 - For digital inclusion supplies and services: * Up to $5,000 for Class V & VI libraries * Up to $3,000 for Class III & IV libraries * Up to $1,000 for Class I & II libraries Libraries in communities with high rates of unemployment and poverty and low rates of Broadband access will have priority for Goal 2. LM has data on these three issues and will rank applications based on these. LM will fund as many of the Goal 2 applications as possible. The grant period will be 12 months, starting from the date of the contract up to 9/30/2021. For full information on the grant program, including the application, please go to www.michigan.gov/lsta<http://www.michigan.gov/lsta> and go to the CARES Act grant section. TEI MakerSpace Summer Lease
by Christina Stuck 15 May '20

15 May '20

Hello, all. Back in the fall, I signed a lease agreement with TEI Landmark for one of their maker crates. I was super excited to provide that for my summer programming. Well, as you know, I won't be able too because of covid-19. I have emailed both the man with whom I signed the contract and the actual company itself to discuss options. I have tried multiple times and have gotten no response. Is anyone out there in the same boat? Thank you. Christina Jane Stuck Youth Librarian Charlotte Community Library

circulation of new DVDs
by Savannah Shilton 15 May '20

15 May '20

Hello, I'm curious how long other libraries lend their new DVDs. Particularly libraries that purchase only 1 copy of a movie. Does your library have a shorter lending period for new DVDs? Do you restrict the number of new DVDs that can be checked out on 1 card? Do you allow holds on new DVDs? Thank you! Savannah Shilton Library Director Putnam District Library 327 N. Main St. PO Box 920 Nashville, MI 49073 Phone: 517-852-9723 -- This message has been scanned by E.F.A. Project and is believed to be clean.
