by Pam Seabolt 19 May '20

19 May '20

The staff at MCLS want to thank you for your continued interest and support in our weekly dialogues and discussions around the environment we find ourselves working in right now and what opportunities might exist as we move forward! We are taking a break this week, but our next dialogue will be Friday, May 29 at 11:00 am EDT (10:00 AM CDT) on Zoom. As always, our dialogues are part support group and part visioning as we share our thoughts and ideas and innovate ways to create our post-pandemic future. The recordings and chat logs from the previous dialogues can be found at https://www.mcls.org/training-events/presentation-slides/. The conversation has also continued outside of the dialogues through an MCLS Virtual Dialogues #Slack workspace. If you’re interested in joining the workspace, please contact Pam Seabolt at seaboltp(a)mcls.org<mailto:seaboltp@mcls.org>. Thank you, and we look forward to seeing you next week! ***************************** Pamela Seabolt Library Strategist Engagement, Consulting, and Training Midwest Collaborative for Library Services (MCLS) (800) 530-9019 ext 123 seaboltp(a)mcls.org<mailto:seaboltp@mcls.org> [signature_1188932813]<https://www.facebook.com/mcls.org> [signature_694808630] <https://twitter.com/mclsorg> [signature_1177761029] <http://www.mcls.org/>

Your thoughts wanted: Engaging Frontline Civic Leaders in Responding to COVID-19
by Jan Davidson 19 May '20

19 May '20

Our partners at The Harwood Institute<https://theharwoodinstitute.org/> are looking for the thoughts and opinions of library staff, as well as other civic leaders, around the country. If you have a few minutes, please consider adding your thoughts to the survey (link below.) Thanks in advance! ANNOUNCING NEW NATIONAL INITIATIVE: ENGAGING FRONTLINE CIVIC LEADERS IN RESPONDING TO COVID-19 Today, I'm announcing a new national initiative called Engaging Frontline Civic Leaders in Responding to COVID-19. We're sending this questionnaire<https://fs440.infusion-links.com/api/v1/click/6237526761930752/533216460983…> to you and thousands of public innovators in our national network. These open-ended questions will help us all to better understand how you and others are responding to COVID-19 and what we need to do to move forward in our communities and as a nation. The questionnaire<https://fs440.infusion-links.com/api/v1/click/4530065919180800/533216460983…> will take just 10-12 minutes to fill out. I hope you'll do it today-and send it in. I commit to you that the Institute will share the insights from this questionnaire<https://fs440.infusion-links.com/api/v1/click/5798917235802112/533216460983…> with you, our network, and beyond. We'll write about the insights, speak out about them, and hold webinars for you to learn about and respond to them. Like you, I am committed to a more hopeful, inclusive path for our communities and our nation. To get there, I believe we must hear more from the local civic leaders and community change agents who will be critical to blazing this new path. You're the ones closest to the ground now, and you'll be instrumental in leading local work moving forward. Your voices and views must help shape this new direction. COVID-19 has brought at least two divergent realities into stark focus. First, the inequities and disparities in our nation are vast and great. So many people who have been living on the edge are now even more vulnerable. These include fellow Americans who have lost their jobs, who need drug treatment, and who do not have internet access and/or laptops to do their schoolwork, among many others. Providing dignity to all, ensuring hope is more than a campaign slogan, and making community a common enterprise is our shared mission. The good news toward this shared mission rests in the other reality I want to highlight-the amazing ways in which so many people and groups have been "doers" in their responses to the pandemic. Public libraries, United Ways, community-based foundations, schools, faith-based groups, arts and cultural institutions, and social service agencies, among others have stepped forward in new, innovative, often remarkable ways to meet our common challenges. And individual Americans have once again demonstrated that we each hold innate capacities to make a real difference in the lives of each other when we decide to step forward. We can-in fact, we must-bridge our divides and create a new culture of shared responsibility in America. This is the mission and the work of The Harwood Institute. Please fill out the questionnaire<https://fs440.infusion-links.com/api/v1/click/4929443385311232/533216460983…> and let us, together, create a more hopeful, inclusive path in our communities and as a nation. Hello Everybody, The Clarkston Independence District Library and the Clarkston Community Historical Society are proud to present the very first virtual edition of Larry Martin's WWII in Their Own Words! For many years, Martin has been dedicated to interviewing soldiers and civilians who suffered and persevered during the war to ensure that their stories are not forgotten. On Zoom, hear the story of Fred Bahlau - a Michigan paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division who jumped into Normandy on D-Day and fought in the Battle of the Bulge in Bastogne, Belgium. A Q & A session about anything WWII-related will follow the interview. You can register today at this link: http://cidlibrary.evanced.info/signup/EventDetails?EventId=13768&backTo=Cal… Let me know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns. Recorded Books invoice
by Rebecca Near 18 May '20

18 May '20

Hi Jim, I worked directly with Mark Haley from Recorded Books to upgrade our existing audio subscription to the unlimited audiobook deal that you helped secure for the state (thank you, by the way!). He mentioned that invoicing would be generated through TLN and would be sent in May. Just wondering when to expect the invoice for this and if it would be emailed or sent through mail. Any further info would be great. Thanks!
